After a trip to Berlin where I rented a car for 5 days I found the rental price about half again as much as I'd expected. I had not filled the tank and expected there to be a sir charge for the half tank but this was a little much (about $150 much.) I called Budged to get an explaination.
The person I talked to said it would take two or three weeks (yes weeks) to get an answer on international inquiries. I asked to speak to a manager as this was a rediculous time period to wait. I was told that there was no one else I could speak to. The people who take care of international billing didn't take phone calls and there was not another level of management that could assist.
I asked to be transferred to the complaints department. I was told this was the complaints department. This is someĀ of the poorest phone support I've ever had.
Two days later (not three weeks mind you) I was called by a representative and told that the additional charge was, indeed, a fuel charge. Refills are done at 2.85Euros/Liter or about $14/gallon. Normal prices in berlin are about $5.75/gallon. I expected a sir charge but not one of that size. I had asked upon returning the car if the charge would be excessive. I was told it would not be. When push came to shove Budget stuck with the contract.
In the future I'll be going with another rental company.
