Brother Sewing Machine - Computerized - SE-270D  —

I've had this machine for over 3 years, never using it. I thought it only embroidered and was not going to learn how to use it for embroidery only. Well, did I get a shock when one day I decided to read the manual. I now love this machine and will never use anything else.

The Brother SE-270D sewing embroidery machine is one of the greatest sewing machines I have ever used. I have at least 10 sewing machines all different brands. I am so impressed with this machines embroidery capabilities I don't think I'll ever hand embroider again.

Capabilities

The Brother SE-270D embroidery machine has so many versatile functions and ease of use I can't imagine using anything else. It embroiders beautifully with no thread change if you purchase the multi thread holder for ($8.95). You just slip in a card or use the built in designs, load the different colors of thread you need, place material in embroidery frame and press the sew button. No need for any further brain power from user! You just have to watch it and make sure it doesn't have any problems like snagging or the thread breaking.

This machine has a thread cartridge that you load your spool of thread into and then it self threads the needle when the cartridge is slid into the slot. For even further convenience you can get the multiple thread attachment and never have to change the thread while embroidering. Bobbin thread is equally as simple; just slide the bobbin into the bobbin carriage and slide the thread tail through a u-shaped slot. That's it the bobbin is loaded. To thread the bobbin all you have to do is slide your spool of thread onto the built in bobbin winder, string the thread through a tension device  (very easy), wind the thread around the bobbin a few times, slide the tail end of thread through the built in cutter and press sew. This machine quickly and neatly winds the bobbin.

This machine comes with built in embroidery designs and one embroidery card. You can also purchase a wide variety of cards for different designs. There is a fantastic website that has free embroidery patterns. You have to purchase a pattern converter that downloads the patterns from the web and records them onto a card. This is less expensive than purchasing the pre-made cards.

This machine is soooo easy to use; you just set the settings and push the sew button. This is a fantastic feature for someone like me who has severe nerve damage. I don't have to use my foot I just set the settings and press the sew button. I can sew longer and faster using this setting.

Attachments

The Brother SE-270D embroidery machine comes with an easy to install embroidery attachment. Just slide it onto the sewing end of the machine, select a design, load your material and thread, set the settings to your liking and press the sew button.

This machine comes with several different presser feet for the built in stitches. I haven't come across a stitch I wanted to use that the machine did not come with. There are a few pressor feet that you can purchase seperately, I just haven't found a need for them yet.

This machine comes with 1 single thread cartridge and a thread cartridge attachment for a second spool of thread. You can purchase extra single thread cartridges or more convenient the multiple spool thread cartridge attachment.

All attachments that this machine comes with come in a plastic pouch with a snap closure. I find it easier to keep all the attachments and tools in a handy wooden cheese box. I even keep a penny and a small tool set in there as the screw driver this machine comes with does not fit between the top and bottom of machine. A penny fits right into the flat screw slots and is easy to turn, works great!

More info

The only problems I have found with this machine; the screw driver it comes with doesn't fit between top and bottom for cleaning under the sewing plate and you have to clean it often (between each project when sewing) or the thread gets gummed up and if the sewing plate is not set exactly perfect the needle will hit the sew plate. Went through several needles before I figured that one out.

I have sewn cotton and other thin materials, velvet, satin, tweed and most other fabrics with this machine and as long as the proper needle is used I haven't had any problems. Although I did have a small problem when trying to sew through 5 layers of tweed and 2 layers of Sherpa at the same time. Broke the needle, but I don't think it was the machines fault. More like the user trying to push a square peg into a round hole! lol That's what I get for trying to do something I knew wouldn't work!

All the way around the Brother SE-270D embroidery/sewing machine is a fantastic machine for the beginner to the more experienced sew-crafter. Like I have said many times I will never use anything else!
