I have always been quite the crafter. I always have thought that embroidery designs were so cool, but I never thought that I would have the talent to do them myself. I bought this Disney embroidery machine at Walmart for a couple of reasons. First of all, it's the only machine I could ever afford, and secondly, I love Disney and all the characters. I finally decided to give it a try.
I could not believe how easy it was to set up. I have never sat within a foot of an embroidery machine, and yet the set-up instructions were terrible to follow. Even with that said, within 20 minutes I was ready to go. I also purchased some inexpensive wash cloths to do some practicing, as well as a variety of colored thread. You can use any thread you want to embroider, but I reccommend that any color you are going to use a lot of, your basic colors, buy in the expensive kind. There is a lot of thread on the spool so it will last a long time, and it has a nicer shine to it.
There are several built in designs to try the machine out. I would also recommend you purchase a fabric called H2O. H2O will go over the bottom and top of your fabric and when you are done with the design it will just wash away. It is nice because it makes your fabric stiffer and gives you a more clean design. Some loose flimsy fabrics will not make a great design because they move when the machine is working. This will help stiffen it up.
While there is about 20 Disney character designs, there are also quite a few non- Disney designs built it as well in case you are not a fan of Disney, or like the variety. I did quite a bit of projects will the built in designs as well. Other cards with designs are available for purchase, but they can get kind of expensive.
The best thing about this embroidery machine that I like is that it has a self threading cassette that will thread the needle for you. I hate straining my eyes to try to put the thread in the needle, so this is a big bonus for me. At first I had a hard time learning how to thread the cassette, but it gives you numbers to follow so you do it properly. Once you have done it a couple of times, you will have it mastered.
I give this Brother Embroidery Machine two thumbs up. It does tons of things, and it is very inexpensive. For a starter machine, I could not ask for anything more!
