This Brother printer is fantastic for people on a budget!  After years of paying big bucks for multifunction laser machines, I found myself in the market for a simple, low volume device to print a few things in color.  This machine fits the bill perfectly.  It was simple to set up, its easy to operate and has a sleep mode to reduce power consumption.  After six months I've only had to change one cartridge.  The replacement cartridges are inexpensive and easy to find online.  I'm looking forward to a few years of low maintenance printing, copying and scanning! The Brother all in one Mfc-290 is a great tool to have at the office or at home. It is a fax, scanner, coppier, printer and does a wonderful job. When I print the picture is so clear and photos look like the real thing. this is the best piece of office equipment I own and would buy it again if needed. The couster support team is wonderful as well. If I have any questions I can call them and they walk me through what ever I need. The brother mfc -290 is a great prouduct and great service at a great price. The ink is not expensive and they last. Print, copy, scan and fax all in one what more could you want. I highly reccomend this product to any one in need of a great office tool. This printer does it all and come with the software you need to get you started and on your way to get printing jobs.

Have had the Brother Multifunction MFC - 290c printer for over a half of a year and I love it! It has worked well for me - not had any problems. I like the multi-colored ink and very easy to take out and put in a new one. The color is astounding. I also like the feature of copying and scanning. It is so handy. My other printer just printed - no other features. Printing borderless prints very professionally. The prints are very clear. Also with this All In One there is no PC required. I still have some things to learn about its use. Just to take the time to do it as instructions are clear. I chose not to hook up the fax - but tht is another feature. Even when there is a paper jam it is not too difficult to get the jammed paper out. Would I buy another one - definitely!

The sale price is really what drew me to this particular printer.  But since then, I've become a fan and love my Brother printer.  I was looking for a printer that has a lift up lid feature so that I can copy a page from a book.  When you only have the feeder type printers, you can't do that.  So I love that feature a lot.  It's also a scanner which I'm learning how to do and can see applications for my business with this.  It's also a fax machine but I'm not using that feature with this at the moment.  But it's nice to know I can.  This printer also has a feature that allows you to copy pages by feeding them from the top lid, similar to what you see in copy machine shops.  This saves opening the lid after each and every page.  I've used this printer to print labels and have not had any problems with it.  The ink cartriages are a little weird in that it has 4 separate ones you have to maintain and buy for.  I primarily use black, so that goes the fastest.  It doesn't allow you to continue printing if even 1 color is gone so that can be bothersome at times.  I haven't compared the cost, but even if it is more, I love this printer so much, I don't care.

After having had 2 HP All-In-Ones, with the scanner on both deciding to not work on the same day (one was a back up, so wasn't that great), we contacted HP for help. Forget that. All they wanted to do was sell an extended warranty. We decided we've had enough of them and are trying this model out. It does a great job of printing, but has had some serious paper jams that were a bit scary. Time will tell, as can't comment on the life of the ink yet. The instructions are fairly easy to follow, so it seems to be user friendly.
