Of all technology purchases we've made in the past five years this has been by far the best. It's ease of use and set-up has prompted us to recommend it to all our family and friends looking to replace home office equipment. We have never had any drum issues and it doesn't seem to use any more or less toner than other copiers we've had. Additionally, we have also experimented with using non-oem toners with great success. Ink/Paper Use We get the average number of copies/prints out of each toner. We have yet to have any drum issues and have had this particular printer/copier for 5 years. Durability As commented above, we have had this copier for 5 years - and it has been a great investment. We use it for all it's intended purposes - scanning, coping, and faxing. Also, we have moved offices 4 times and after each move it was easy to set-up. Design Since we've not had any need to replace this item I would say a fantastic design - in a world where technology is outdated in the matter of months.

The Brother MFC-7420 all-in-one is a great printer, scanner, and fax machine.  I have one in my office, just implored a relative to purchase one, and my business partner has one too.  I scan everything and am very pleased with the quality, simplicity, and effectiveness of this Brother machine.  The only trouble I've had deals with the fax from PC feature.  I had to print my fax, take the paper from the out tray and place it in the in tray.  Prints business cards very well - I just printed 30.  The paper width guides on hand feed and auto feed trays loosen easily.

Prior to purching the Brother MFC-7420 I used several other printer brands/features.  The Brother MFC-7420 prints, makes copies, scans and faxes.  Each of the four features are easy to use, producing clean, clear copies.   The scan/fax to PC is especially easy to use, though the scanning may take a little more time than some other machines.

I will start with the complaint because I only have one. This printer only prints in black and white. Okay, beside that...Oh my God! This printer is fantastic. It is a three-in-one printer, copier and fax. It worked right out the box. Plug-and-play at it's best. I didn't need to read a manual to figure out how to send a fax. There was no programming necessary for the printer to function. I faxed without even hooking the printer up to my computer. I installed the software and I am able to scan pictures and documents into my computer with no distortion or loss of text. My old scanner used to give me garbage, but the Brother MFC-7420 recognizes text and gives me what I give it. The copy feature works great. I can put several papers in and it feeds them and copies them. The Brother MFC-7420 is a laser printer and is very fast and quiet. I've come so used to my inkjet that the speed surprises me every time. The copy is always very clear and crisp. The ink isn't cheap, but it lasts a really long time. Well worth it for all that this machine does.

If you are looking for a new All-in-One printer, look no further, this is the one for you! It has all your features and with laser quality, all you need. It has printing, fax, scan, and copy. Unlike the older (and some current) all-in-one's, it does not need to be hooked to a compter to make copies. It can be a completely stand alone unit if so desired. The software is easy to install and works without problem. It has both a flatbed, and autofeed tray for the scanner/copier. All you have to do is hit the scan or copy button, then start. You're done! With this Brother All-in-One printer being laser, it adds high quality copying/printing to great value. The cartridges are cheaper than other brands and lasts for thousands of copies. We go through about one per year. It is simple to change, a one minute job, anyone can do it. No problems in the years we have had it. No jamming, no toner leaking, no bad parts.

I will first tell you about the good in this printer.  When it works it is able to print out a  fair amount in a short period of time.  The copy function and scan function also usually work fine, but is much slower.  I expected that for the price.  I never tested the fax.  The bad is it runs out of toner quickly and stops working then you have to try to trick the toner into believing there is more, which there is long after it says it is out.  This is a pain and a way for Brother to make more money.  The feed frequently breaks down and then you have to fix where the paper is stuck. This is much more of  a headache then even the toner issue.  It was reasonably priced, but I would much rather have a different printer and have paid a little more money instead of always trying to replace the toner and figure out how to get the paper feed to work. Do yourself a favor and get a different brand of printer that costs a little more.  I loved my Cannon laser printer and wish I would of paid more and got another.

The Brother MFC740 enables you to scan important items into your computer which helps you eliminate unneeded papers. You don't haveto keep stocks of files because everything could be scanned into your PC or office computer. The Brother MFC7420 is not a big bulky machine so it could be placed anywhere in you home and office. It is not very heavy so you can move it from one place to another. The Brother MFC7420 easily connects to your computer you don't need to much guidance. I personally love the Brother MFC7420 copier, fax machine, printer, scanner. It is perfect for the small business or for the home usage. No words can describe how good it is.

We have this machine as the main faxer/copier in our lab. It is a very reliable printer that can handle light loads of copying and faxing. It is nice to have the bin feeder that automatically takes one paper at a time but this feeder can sometimes get jammed. The toner is expensive but I have been testing with replacement cartridges from 3rd party sources and they seem to do well. There are a lot of great features and utility with this printer for simple office related work. I do purchasing so I am required to fax out stuff, copy stuff and keep alot of paper record. This printer helps me do it. Its not the most durable printer but its not exactly fragile either. Jams are easy to fix and alot of panels to open up to check where the jam is at. Holds plenty of paper for my needs and the toner lasts adequately. Upkeep is pretty decent if you use non brand name toner replacements. The copy function works great and gives clean crisp copies of everything.

My experience with this printer was terrible. I bought it after having used an HP for several years, because it seemed to be a good deal. It was so new that there were no reviews. I named it "R2D2" because it made so much noise cleaning and calibrating itself at odd times - often when I was taking a phone call, Within the first year warranty period the machine stopped working, and was replaced by Brother. The second machine began to fail within its first year. I bought another HP all-in-one and never looked back.

Excellent scanning resolution. Nice printing quality's. No problems with paper feed. I used to have HP a few years back and those machines were horrible with feeding the paper The only disadvantage: it has a multifeed for copying or scanning, but when scanning several papers it stores it in several files. Or I did not figure out yet how to convert them in one file.
