This Broil King grill melts, and I'm not joking.

The folks at Consumer Reports were sure suprised when they were testing out grills this year and the Broil King Signet 90 started melting. They thought perhaps it was a fluke, so they tested others and found the same problem.

It's the firebox that melts and drips down under the grill - where your feet might get burned by melting metal.

This grill ended up rated "not acceptable" by Consumer Reports who contacted the company and also government agencies.

There's a safety recall on the Broil King Signet 90 with a "fix it" kit.

No. I did not buy this grill, and I'm glad. It's a $650 gas grill. Grills should not melt for starters, and a "fix it" kit would not "do it" for me. I'd want my money back.

I write about outdoor cooking, and this is one of the wildest stories I've come across. I thought perhaps it was a hoax to start with, but the information is available at Consumer Reports, and the recall and "fix it" kit are listed on the Broil King page.

My suggestion would be to test grills before selling them. No one in their right mind would want a gas grill that melts when you cook on it.

Hi Jo - I'm a big time Weber girl. I'm not associated with them in any way. They don't know I exist. Teehee. But, both my grills and my smoker are Weber. Can't go wrong with Weber. There are other great grills too. I often get drafted to cook. But I just trust Weber.

Well we need a grill though I'm not sure we'd use it. This one won't be it. But one year we were cooking - I'll never forget it because it was mother's day - and the whole glass front broke so we had to go out for dinner! Jo

Yikes!!!!! And a "fix it" kit ? What are they thinking? Guess they're desperate not to give all the people their $650 back. Thanks for the info.

My Members Mark is stainless steel but the 2 side plates are 1/4" aluminum and I had 1 bad flash fire 2 years ago that melted the right side panel. It was covered by warranty and replaced free but everything else is all steel. When the redesigned it they made the panels out of stainless also. ;)

Yeah. They are grill experts and sell them. You'd think they'd know their metals.

Thats what happens when they make the bottom of the grill out of aluminum, you would think they would know better! ;)

I haven't seen it, but it's a baffle they say. You put it in the bottom of the firebox. No tools needed. I guess it's kind of like sticking a pan in there between the bottom of the grill and the cooking part. They say not to use the grill until you get the kit. Here's the web page if anyone happened to get this grill and needs the info: http://www.broilkingbbq.com/notice_us_big.html

Really. You'd think they'd throw some burgers on and make sure the thing works like it's supposed to. Very odd.

Don't companies TEST the materials they build grills out of??? You'd kind of hope a problem like melting pieces would be seriously nipped in the bud....guess not...
