The Britax Roundabout has been a *great carseat - we have owned it for 2 years, and plan to get many many more years of use out of it.  The fabric area is easy to take off and wash, and I have never had a problem with the strap that you pull to tighten the straps.  the only downside I would mention is that the fabric piece that goes over the buckle was not tight enough, and kept coming off when we took our son out of the seat - his legs would pull it off.  We would often find it on the ground or on the floor of the car, and then finally it came off and we didn't notice until too late, so it's gone forever.  But it doesn't seem to affect the comfort of the seat at all - my guess is that the fabric piece would come most in handy in the summer when the sun has heated the buckle up.  So while I would prefer that ours had not come off and gotten lost, that would not prevent me from buying this carseat again.  We are in the market for another one as my daugher is growing out of her infant seat, and I am tempted to get this one again, despite the high price.  And another bonus - it's also rated the #1 safest convertable carseat on consumer reports.
