When it was time to look at a convertible car seat for our son I did a lot of research and everyone consistently rated the Britax Roundabout as fantastic in safety and comfort. My husband's grandparents were going to buy them for us so money really wasn't an issue, so we chose this one and chose the grey because it wasn't girly and figured it would hide stains well.
When we received them I was very pleased that we did not have to put it together, of course for a high end brand I would expect no less. Upon inspection I was a little disappointed in the padding. I really expected it to be very well padded for an expensive car seat but it really felt no more padding than the Graco's that you find at the stores. It had a pad that you put put around the buckle which I thought was nice so it won't rub on our son's legs.
Installing it in my 2002 Ford Escape was a breeze with the LATCH system. Although we did not know at the time you can not install both the LATCH and seat belt, very big no no. When installing it in my husbands car, which is a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer,it was more difficult. He does not have LATCH in his car and the way the seats are made it difficult since it doesn't lean back like mine did. After much frustration he figured it out, we had to put a noodle behind it to make it work right.
Our son loved his new car seat right away, he liked the feel of the felt and he seemed happy in it. One thing I noticed on hot days is he would sweat a lot in it and I'm sure it's because the felt does not breathe very well. We have used this car seat for almost 4 years and were pretty pleased with it. Now some cons: - It is a pain to take the cover out. We are ones that don't like to take the car seat out, too time consuming and a pain, so when he has thrown up in it or spilled something so we needed to take it off it just took entirely too long. - The straps become twisted very very easily and it is very frustrating to get them untwisted, especially when you are in a hurry. - This being our first child we figured having it only go to 40 pounds we would be fine until he needed a booster sseat and it seemed when doing my research that that's what most things were saying. Well, we were wrong, he's not even 4 yet but he has outgrown it in height and weight so we had to buy another car seat. If I knew I would have gotten the bigger marathon or another one that would have lasted longer.
