Britax Regent —
I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the Britax Regent car seat.When my son was 18 months old his sister came along. At 33 pounds it was time for him to go forward in a car seat. Only problem? His current seat was too small for him to sit forward in! He's got a very long torso and the straps could not safely contain him. We'd purchased a cheaper car seat when my son outgrew his bucket seat at 4 months old-long before I properly researched the greatness that is britax.
So I finally went ahead and slurged on a britax regent car seat for him. At the rate he was growing it didn't make sense to get a smaller seat and I am a huge fan of extended rear facing (something, unfortunately, he outgrew long before I would have liked!) and extended harnessing. This seat gives us that extended harnessing.
The seat is easy to install and my son LOVES his seat. He immediately crawls into the car, sits down, and tries to put on the seat belt himself. (Thankfully hasn't tried to undo it yet but I have friends who swear he won't be able to do it!)
The seat is heavy to lug around but considering I use it in a car, and move it to another car to use again, that is not an issue for me at all.
Many people baulk at the price tag for britax seats but given their lifespan, duribility, ease of use (both latch and seat belt are equally simple for us to install!) and superior safety rating (they are the ONLY seats in the US which does not automatically have to be replaced after an accident. There are specific guidelines on the reasons to replace the britax seats after an accident, and often they still do need replacing, but not ALWAYS unlike other seats which MUST be replaced no matter how minor the accident, child in it or not.)
