Britax Decathlon Review Summary

Britax Car Seats are known to be top of the line in safety and one of the only car seat brands allowing parents to keep children safe in a 5-point harness up to 65 pounds. Owners of the Britax Decathlon overwhelmingly agree it is the best convertible car seat and well worth every penny. According to reviewers, “the Decathlon is incredibly simple to both use and install.” What sold most parents on choosing the Decathlon over other Britax models? “Adjustable harness and buckle/crotch strap” that other models such as the Marathon do not have as well a “plush and roomy” design. A note to those wanting to use the seat rear-facing; the seat may not fit in smaller vehicles. Regardless of the price reviewers state “it is so nice to know my son is safe and COMFORTABLE.”

The time had come for a brand new ride, for my daughter that is...Britax/ Romer manufacturers US imported public transit seating, so I felt confident they knew a thing or two about the carseat business.

What makes a carseat worth parting with $290.00?

The Britax Decathalon car seat is very durable and extremely high quality as are all Britax products.  We used it as a second car seat for our first daughter and now our second daughter uses one.

It didn't work well in the very early days and we ended up getting a click-in rear facing seat for each...

i think this is a good car seat, dependable, stylish. it is very handy. and it can hold up to 65 pounds and is very easy to move from car to car. i would most likely recomed the product to family or friends. i would use is with our next child and there after. i am just not to happy with the way it doest fit in to small compact cars. if you have a small car i would not recomend this product to you.

after fighting with Marathon install we got the Decathlon and it was easy! we love the adjustable crotch strap too.

in general happy with the seat but...

the adjuster strap is a pain when the seat is RFing...  and I wish there were more cover options

I am really impressed with the Britax Decathlon Car seats.  I have four boys under the age of five and therefore, I own 3 of these seats.  My oldest boy is in a booster seat and my infant is still in a rear facing seat/base combo but will move into the third Decathlon very soon.  I have also owned the Britax Marathon seats and was equally impressed.  The Britax brand all around seems to consistently rank very well in the safety seat ratings that I have researched and as a result, I have always felt comfortable making them my choice each time I buy a new seat.  The price is a little high,...

When I was searching for a bigger car seat, I wanted one with higher weight limits, my little guy is a big guy!!! I compared all 3 Britax car seats-the Marathon, Decathlon & the Roundabout. The Decathlon-middle priced of the 3 sold me!! The selling featurures were: adjustable harness buckle/crotch strap (the other two do not have this feature) comfort pads weight limits on the seat (33lbs rear-facing & 65lbs forward facing). We moved my son into this seat at about 10 months of age when he was still rear-facing and weighed 22lbs & was 30 inches tall. The seat is large but it fit fine... read full review »

We compared a lot of car seats for our daughter. We looked at britax, graco and several other car seats. Some were smaller and lighter, which made it easier to get it in and out of the car. Some were bigger, bulkier and heavy. The prices varied widely. A few were under $100.00 some were over $300.00. After doing a lot of research and compaision shopping, we chose the Britax Decathlon carseat. The Britax Decathlon carseat did cost more than most car seats and was bigger than most carseats. But in this case we thought that in this bigger and more expensive was the way to go. We used the seat for...

Although I am a budget concious person, no product can be too expensive when it comes to the safety of my little one! The Britax brand is a European brand that undergoes more safety criteria requirements when compared to other US brands (Europe has more safety requirements than the United States!?!). We recently took a road trip (12 hours on the open highway!) and were thrilled with this carseat. We were able to recline this carseat and let our little girl sleep for most of the trip. This carseat sits the child up a little higher and we constantly laugh at her as she oooohs and awwws at all the...

The Britax Decathlon has been an amazing car seat my my son! My son is a big boy at 19 months & weighs a good size! Britax has amazing features that my child loves. Comes a a 5 point harness, side impact protection, & up to 65 lbs weight limit. Rear and forward facing recline for comfortable positions for your child. It has built in locks for the seat belt & that is a big safety habit for me! It has great colors which you can choice whether for a boy or girl! Although I have not been in a accident while owning my Britax, I will know that my child will be secure and safe if there were any damage....

After MANY, MANY hours of research on the internet and asking everyone I know with a child about car seats, I finally settled on getting a Britax Decathalon.  It had some of the highest ratings on every site I visited.  Britax in general was always rated at the top in every single category - safety, comfort, quality, etc.  I do not regret my decision one bit!  In fact, after having this car seat for a very short amount of time my husband and I both agreed it was well worth the money to buy another Decathalon.  We have since bought a Marathon as well (for a friend's car - we would have gotten...

We got this car seat as a replacement for our Graco SnugRide. I really thought that we were going to hate loosing the convenience of just popping the carrier out of the base and carrying our daughter in without disturbing her, especially when she falls asleep. The truth is that she's so much more comfortable in the Britax than she ever was in the Graco that she sacks out completely and almost never wakes up when we take her out. Being somewhat safety obsessed, we kept her car seat in a rear-facing position until just before her 3rd birthday. In the end, the decision to turn it around wasn't based... read full review »

As most other first-time-mom's, I did research on everything: carseats, highchairs, swings, bottles etc. After asking around, reading reviews and comparing many stores and brands, I decided I had to go with this Britax model. Besides being widely known as one of the safest carseats on the market, the ease I found in assembling, using & cleaning it only improved my opinion!

While it appears to have all kinds of buckles and pads and straps and hooks, it comes with a manual that makes the confusing.. easy to understand. I found that I could adjust the straps & pads very easily, remove AND put back...

When my son was born nearly 3 years ago, we searched and searced for the perfect car seat. Since my husband and I both work, we knew we needed to get 2 car seats for those times that one of us would drop off and the other would pick up. But I didn't want to get the cheapest car seat - I wanted one that would last - not only in terms of durability, but also in terms of how long my son would fit in the seat.

Yes, this is an expensive car seat (the Britax Decathalon), but my son used it until his little sister came along - at which time we upgraded him (even though he could still fit into the Britax)....

I have used this car seat for my child for ten months now, used it both rear facing and forward facing.  I really like how comfortable my child is in it.  We tried one other car seat before and my child would throw a fit each time they were put in it.  This one is so comfy that they don't throw a fit anymore.  I also like how it has a reclining feature and has many different options for how to secure it to the seat.  If someone asked me if I could reccommend a car seat for them, without a doubt I would tell them about Britax.  Where I live, in California, there is a state law where kids have...

We love this car seat. At first I saw the price and freaked, but once I researched it and saw it was worth every penny. How can you put a price on your child's safety? It has the highest weigh limit both rear (35 lbs.) and forward face (65 lbs.) that I have found. With my other kids I have to turn them around before they were 12 months, because of size and weight. With this car seat I could leave my son rear facing until he was two.  It has the lowest number of recalls. It installs the easy in almost any car. Quick-adjust headrest and harness height re-positions effortlessly without having to...

I thoroughly reviewed convertible carseats before deciding to get the Britax Decathlon.  My sister had one and loved it, so this helped.  Plus the reviews online for this were great.  It's expensive though but since it lasts until your kid is about 6, I felt that even though it was a lot of money up front, it would be worth it.  Here is a tip as well...if you don't care about the color you can get this car seat for about $180.00 shipped.

I like this carseat.  I don't love it.  I'm very short and in order to get my daughter in this snuggly I have to crawl into my car to get leverage before...
