We loved our high-ceilinged, large room in the old section of the hotel. Placed behind the desk, we were convenient to the internet station, and off the street. We loved sitting on the tiled porch with a cold drink from the mini-bar. Lots of wood trim, stained glass, and tropical plants add to the charm of this hotel. We would have enjoyed a better breakfast than fruit and white toast, maybe the local gallo pinto for example, but the restaurant in the 'wine cellar' also had good service and atmosphere when we went down for our complimentary continental breakfast. The walk to the central market... read full review »

The hotel is very charming and conveniently located. Except for the lack of air conditioning, the amenities are comfortable for someone used to USA standards. The best part about the hotel (even better than the good price!) is the WONDERFUL hotel staff. I was traveling alone and I didn't have much planned. The hotel staff made all my reservations for my day trips and made helpful suggestions when asked. I can't say enough about the GREAT desk staff! I will DEFINITELY recommend this hotel to friends and would come back myself!!

Shopping: Short Walk, Although Costa Rica is not known as a shopping...

We arrived very late, sometime after midnight, the valet meet us at the curb; summoned the manager and we were checked in immediately. She even opened the store to get us fresh bottles of water. The center of the hotel used to be open the rooms at one time had windows into the courtyard- which ours still did do so noise did carry into our room. We chose to stay again on our return trip back into the city and had one of the rooms up front (206?) It was much bigger and quiet. WE weren't tempted to walk around much, did find a fun souvenir shop and ate dinner at the hotel/casino down the street-... read full review »

This place is a gem! But, it is in San Jose Proper so very close to downtown which was great for me. I got to see the local businesses each day I went for my dspecialty coffee! The rooms are VERY clean and the proximity to San Jose events was about a mile for most museums, Teatro, etc. Ask about the hotel shuttle to/from the airport.

Dining: Short Walk, Keep in mind this is a downtown hotel so you are not in a secludded gated US-style Hotel environment

The Brittiana hotel was very comfortable although there was no air conditioning in this room the breez and the celing fan was enough to make it a comfortable stay. Also the location was good, close to casino's and supermarkets.

Nightlife: Short Walk, Use the money exchange at the airport. Might save time and hassels. Although the stores and casino's did take american money.

It was conviniently located near the center of the city. Service was excelent, courteous people. Security was excelent. The size of the room was adequate for one person or a couple who are on the go.

Nightlife: Short Drive, Excelent nitelife and restaurants nearby
