Brita Contour Water Pitcher —

Due to a medical condition I have it's very important that I remain adequately hydrated at all times.  When I started a new job last year I found it a pain to go downstairs at my office to fill up my glass every hour and decided that I needed a pitcher to keep at my desk.  I decided on the Brita Contour pitcher as it was not too large and I liked the fact that it doesn't just dispense; it filters too.

I only paid about $10 for the pitcher which came with one filter. Filters last for a few months and cost a few dollars each but can be bought in bulk at warehouse stores at great savings.  The process for preparing to use a new filter is simple. You just soak it in water for a few minutes, then rinse it off well and insert it into the hole in the insert in the pitcher top.  Then you just fill up the insert with water and it trickles down into the bottom of the pitcher.  Sometimes I fill the insert with ice and then pour the water over the top so the water sort of chills a bit before trickling down and as the ice melts it trickles down as well.

A nice feature is that the lid fits tightly so if there is water still in the insert, you can pour from the pitcher but the water won't spill out as the top is well-sealed. And the water tastes good too and is free from stuff that I don't need in my body.  Before I started using the pitcher I noticed that from time to time the water at work had a slight chlorine taste and scent. With the Brita, I never detect that anymore.  In fact, a guy that I work with says he takes his Brita to Mexico with him and he and his baby drink filter tap water through it and they have never gotten sick from drinking it.  I'm not willing to trust my Brita that far yet, but that's pretty amazing if it's true!

The pitcher holds about 1.5 quarts of water.  I fill it up one in the morning and once after lunch.  Having the pitcher right there in front of my helps remind me to drink a glass each hour and I strive to have drunk it all before I leave for the day.  I love water and drink a lot of it but sometimes I just forget to drink enough. Having this pitcher nearby during the day is a good visual that keeps me on track.
