Brita Contour Water Pitcher —

To the Point

When my mom moved into her Assisted Living Facility it came with a small refrigerator. She likes cold water so I couldn't get a large Brita Filtration System. Instead I bought her the Brita Pitcher Water Filtration System in the Slim Model. This is the most compact system so the box tells me.

A Closer View

We used a Brita System for years until we got an outside water system on our refrigerator. I  found the water to taste clean. In fact we are told that it is certified to reduce chlorine; mercury; and lead. It has the Good Housekeeping sign of approval on the box.

Some Specifications

The Brita Water Slim Pitcher is 10.6 inches by 9.1 inches x 4.2 inches which fits in perfectly in her refrigerator.

Brita offers a limited 90-day warranty.

The Brita Pitcher comes with one filter. Filters should be changed about every 2 months. It came with a complicated sticker to help me remember when to refill it.

It holds about 40 ounces of water.

Setting Up the Brita Pitcher

Setting this up was really a cinch (mostly). I soaked the filter for 15 minutes; washed the pitcher; rinsed the filter under cold water; inserted the filter into the reserve lining up a groove with a notch. Now truly I had a bit of trouble with this. I have no idea why - maybe I was just in a hurry but I finally got this lined up and it was good to go.

I did as was suggested and that was to fill it a couple of times and dump the water (or use it to water your plants) because carbon dust will appear the first few fillings. I actually did this several time before I didn't see any carbon in the water.

Pros

  • The Brita Slim Model is a great size for a small refrigerator or for one or two people.
  • The water taste clean and I do believe it filters the bad stuff.
  • It's convenient for many people.

Cons

  • I thought getting the filter in a bit tricky.
  • When it's fill (or even ½ full) it is too heavy for my mom to lift. That's ok because we have aides so she doesn't have to lift it. Just be aware that 40 ounces may not sound like a lot but for some it could be.
  • I continue to have trouble lifting the lid of the pitcher to add water. I'm not the only one. It doesn't lift up easily.

Price: I paid $10.99 in the grocery store. You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AP7NV for $11.99.

Jo's Viewpoint

In spite of the Cons I think the Brita Pitcher Water Filtration System is great and would buy it again.

No, listen, wait -- I looked at the picture at the top again and this is different. I must have the bigger model from a few years ago. This looks really interesting. Thanks for the review.

I think I have this one (not sure if it's the same model) and it does make the water taste great. One of the best survey deals I ever got into was when they sent me FOUR free filters for my Brita pitcher, then paid me $20 for marking down the dates when I changed the filters and for filling out a brief online survey afterward! Hope your Mom enjoys that great water!

Bought one of these when I lived in Houston (didn't like the taste of the tap water) --- worked very well, IMHO, and much more cost effective than wasting money on bottled water.

Thanks so much. Truly if I were the type to sit and write a book I could write about my experiences but many of them come through in my online writing. Jo

Good point about the weight of the pitcher. Your care giving role has given you such insight into the needs of others and it really comes through in your reviews!
