Bridge to Terabithia Review Summary

"Imagination and friendship are the stars" of Bridge to Terabithia. Based on the book by the same name, Josh Hutcherson (Journey to the Center of the Earth and Firehouse Dog) and AnnaSophia Robb (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Because of Winn-Dixie) star as "two lonely kids who become friends and invent their magical world through their imaginations." Reviewers enjoyed the CGI effects of Bridge to Terabithia and the "extraordinary acting" by the young stars, yet those that had read the book as well felt that it fell short of its potential. While some found the ending to be too mushy, others felt that Bridge to Terabithia resolved the family and personal issues that had been brought up during the film. Most reviewers reported this to be a "nice family film" that made them "serendipitously surprised."

I was pleasantly surprised by Bridge to Terabithia. I didnt know much going into it so I had low expectations. My husband gave me the 2 minute overview saying that it was an imaginative film about kids in the forest. I was a little worried since I dont tend to like movies that trascend into sci-fi land....

I thought Bridge to Terabithia would be more of a fantasy type movie where two friends get entangled in a magical world, but it was actually not what I expected.  The movie and book are more about two lonely kids who become friends and invent their magical world throught their imagination.  But the...

My review is going to compare some entities from Katherine Paterson's novel, the 1985 film and the remake in 2007.

This is a fantasy/drama film geared toward younger children/pre-teens but people of all ages are enjoying it.  One must be forewarned not to get the 2007 version confused with the 1985 verion that starred Annette O'Toole.  It seems that when Disney released the newer version producers of the '85 version decided to also release theirs on DVD.  The original version from '85  has been getting a lot of bad reports because viewers were very disappointed that the movie didn't sufficiently...

Josh Hutcherson and AnnaSophia Robb star in Bridge to Terabithia, an imaginative look into a child's mind.

Plot: Jess (Hutcherson) become friends with Leslie (Robb) when she moves in next door.  Leslie is different than anyone he has ever met and they become quick friends.  She's a little quirky and a lot of fun.  They soon make up and rule the kingdom of Terabithia.  Here they escape and see giant trolls and mini warriors that look like ugly fairies (but are good).

What I thought:  I did think that there could have been more imaginative visuals going on in this movie.  You don't get a full...

I was fully prepared to hate Bridge to Terabithia, and not just because I was watching it on a Greyhound bus en route from Boston to New York, a trip that I would generally rather spend reading a good book than watching, well, what I expected to be a bad interpretation of a good book.

Hollywood doesn't do literature well all that often. Disney gets it right even less often than Hollywood in general does. The CGI-driven ad campaign did not inspire any confidence that this would be an exception to those rules, and I made a point of missing this when it hit theaters.

Katherine Paterson's novel, Bridge...

Ok, so this was my favorite book after I read it in my 5th grade English class. Boy oh Boy!!!

What a mind roller coaster, when you are reading this book it's like your eyes close while you are reading and you are in the book in this Magical fairytale. This was the best book ever, so I was really excited when the movie came out.

The movie was just as fantastic, of course I'm 20 now and my imagination was ten times better when I was younger but the mind blowing graphics, wonderful storyline are JUST WONDERFUL!!

There was some really extraordinary acting here by young people, and a lot of credit should go to the director, too, for making it happen.

Those two elements pushed the film into some very compelling exploration of people's reactions to death of a loved one -- especially young people, who are less prepared for it and typically see themselves as immortal.  Because that's a subject not often dealt with in films, I was totally hooked on this one.

My disappointment came near the end, where the plot turned to mush and everything came to a lived-happily-ever-after finale.  I felt let down.  After...

I was not sure what to expect but found the notions of conjuring up a fantasy world not so disagreeable since the creatures seemed controllable or defeatable if they became sinister. I especially liked the recreation of common items into more elaborate ideations. The character developments were more plausible and resonated better than the story line, and the ending brought a lot of loose ends together for a more complete resolution of family and personal issues. It would possibly entertain a  grade-school or pre-teen more than anyone.

This was a very refreshing and fun family film.  The story was great as were the lessons that it had to teach.  I even got a little misty during certain parts.  Most of the actors were unknowns but they were all very good - especially the lead boy and girl.  It made me want to read the book that it was based on.  Overall it was a very nice "feel good" film.  See it with young kids and enjoy their fascination with the film and its story.

Tween, young adult, and adult readers alike will enjoy this comign of age story about two gender-bending, oddball, awkward kids growing up in the country. This book is for everyone who ever built a fort, explored the woods, liked to run races, painted a picture, had siblings, felt alone, explored the woods, found a true friend, or worried about the future. In short, this story is for everyone.

First of all, the previews made the film out to be more like a Chronicles of Narnia type film with lots of imagination, but sadly the few scenes in the previews are about all you get out of the imaginary world. The worst part of the movie (trying not to spoil it for those of you who haven't seen it) is that one of the young characters dies tragically. There is absolutely no-sense or reasoning to this persons death, it only makes you cry. Also, the inner struggles of the children who are using this imaginary world as an escape never really get resolved. One child has a father that pays them little...
