When I got pregnant, I knew that I wanted to try and nurse my baby because of the health benefits. I worked in a maternity store for several years and had heard the ups and downs from many new moms. While pregnant, I read as much material I could so that I could be prepared. Luckily my daughter latched... read full review »

I have breastfed all three of my children and I'm glad I did!

Here are the positives for me in no particular order:
--provides precious bonding time
--allows me to sit down for a few minutes
--provides nutrients and immunity that formula cannot
--I can't possibly forget and leave my breasts at home
--it helped me to lose weight (and I gained nearly 50 pounds each time!)
--I drink more water like I'm supposed to
--cheaper than formula
--lowers my risk of breast and ovarian cancer
--lowers my risk of osteoporosis and hip fractures
--don't have to measure things in the middle of the night
--baby doesn't have...

As a first-time mom, I had never doubted that I would breastfeed my children. My mom breastfed me during a time when formula was all the rage. I knew all of the benefits - bonding between mother and baby, easier for baby to digest, et cetera.

Unfortunately, things don't always work out as planned. My milk didn't come in for nearly a week after my son was born, and even then I was never able to produce enough for him to not still be hungry afterward. I tried everything to increase production - nursing longer, nursing more often, pumping after feedings to make sure they were completely empty,...

My story in breastfeeding: My son was born at 32 weeks, weighing in at 4 pounds. Nearly a month in the NICU was tough on all of us, and I have a strong memory of being told by a lactation specialist when my son and I were having trouble nursing that if I didn't pump for him and he didn't latch on soon, my son would die.

I was hearbroken and eventually was SO stressed out from the multple trips to the NICU and that lactation specialist that I gave up on pumping and nursing altogether. I had this glamorous mothering idea of breastfeeding, and I was devasted. When my son had colic and another mother...

My first wouldn't take to breast feeding and I had inverted nipples.  I had NO support and it was very hard to do, especially being a first time mom and not knowing what to do.  I made it through 6 weeks before he literally ripped off one of my nipples.  I switched him to formula and he is still alive and doing great.  I was DETERMINED to bf my second child and he is now 14 months old and still nursing.  When I was pregnant I would rub the purple Lansinoh Cream on my nipples after each shower and then more often as I got closer to term.  I had NO problem at all this time, my nipples were... read full review »

This is my first time breastfeeding but my third child. My first two kept ear infections and respitory infections. (they were NOT breastfed) My newest child has no problems and is a very happy baby. If you want to breastfeed but don't know if you can, here's how it finally worked for me. First thing is to buy the boppy pillow that has the back support and snaps to you. That is a lifesaver. It makes it so much easier and you have a free had to do other things. It also helps your back. Second I also pump extra for bottles. The nurses told me this wasn't a good idea because the child would have problems...

I won't go into the already fabulous reasons to breastfeed ( bonding, baby's nutrition, etc. ) that have been mentioned in previous reviews. I'll try to add some that haven't already been mentioned.. like..... it makes you SKINNY. I AM THINNER NOW THAN BEFORE I GOT PREGNANT. No gym..just exclusively breastfeeding for the first nine months!!!!

If you are a busy mom (and who isn't?)...who has time to prepare bottles and wash them all and how long can you prepare them in advance, anyway?...why stress???? Breastfeeding is food on the fly. Wether you are going out on an outing or to another continent...

I breastfed all three of my kids.  Two of them, longer than I'd like to admit.  It is such a special bond between mom and baby.  There's nothing like it.  There is absolutely NOTHING sexual about it.  I think this is why some moms don't try it.  Some are afraid that it will hurt too much.  If the bottle was NEVER invented, we would have to breastfeed!  If you had your baby while vacationing on a deserted island, you would have to breastfeed!  Our society has made it too easy to opt not to.  Our society also frowns upon public breastfeeding or breastfeeding a baby beyond 6 weeks of age! ... read full review »

It's clear that mother's milk is best for babies AND for the breastfeeding family. It's also clear that feeding artifical milk is inferior.

La Leche League really helped me learn the art of breastfeeding. Occasionally we hear of women who had some trouble getting off to a successful start. We don't as often hear from the women whose babies latched right on and had no troubles. They are the majority, but people seem to more often share the hard times. That's just human nature.

While breastfeeding is completely natural, that doesn't always mean it comes naturally to every mother. Women can find information...

BREAST MILK is the only food made for human babies!  All the others are poor imitations which don't provide immunity to diseases and the exact nutrition babies need.  Formulas can cause allergies, stomach upsets, smelly diapers, and developmental deficiencies.  Not to mention the high costs!  Breast milk is always the right temperature with no bottle warming needed.  It is so much more convenient - at least when mom and baby are together.  Pumping and storing for other times is not so great, but the great benefit for baby outweighs anything else.  I breastfed all three of my babies and recommend...

I agree that breastfeeding is the most natural option for feeding your baby with tons of pros for both baby and mother.  I nursed my first two children along with bottle/formula feeding (due to working and not having the opportunity/time to pump) and didn't have any major problems.  When I gave birth to my 3rd child 2 months ago, I planned on nursing full time since I was now a SAHM.  Well it turned out that this child just had too small of a mouth for a proper latch to my breast.  After trying for 3 1/2 weeks and suffering through bleeding blisters on my nipples and crying over the loss, I... read full review »

I'm the mother of 4.  I tried breastfeeding all 4 of my babies, It just never worked very well for me.  I'm not sure why?  Maybe I have wierd nipples.  They don't seem wierd. Sometimes a baby's tongue is short.  My son's tongue had to be clipped.  Maybe this also had something to do with it.  Bottles worked very well for me.  I was still able to bond well with my babies.  I never believed in the propping the bottle method.  I always held my babies close to me and watched them eat.  I feel it was as rewarding looking into their little eyes while they nursed on a bottle.  Nothing... read full review »

I have never really had ANY problems nursing BOTH of my kids. My daughter with a little exception, she was my first born, and a little difficult delivery, and we were separtaed for a few hours for tests, and while separtated, they gave her a BOTTLE!!!!! At day 5, she was nursing, REFUSED the bottle, and it was a breeze!!!! LOL, my son, I was soooo used to it by then (They are only 2 years a part, with her nursed until I found out of my second pregnancy) I could cook supper while nursing my newborn, lol, it was SOOO easy and not to mention just NATURAL!!!! LOL- my kids didn't come from cows, so... read full review »
