Most HelpfulI have breastfed all three of my children and I'm glad I did!
Here are the positives for me in no particular order:
--provides precious bonding time
--allows me to sit down for a few minutes
--provides nutrients and immunity that formula cannot
--I can't possibly forget and leave my breasts at home
--it helped me to lose weight (and I gained nearly 50 pounds each time!)
--I drink more water like I'm supposed to
--cheaper than formula
--lowers my risk of breast and ovarian cancer
--lowers my risk of osteoporosis and hip fractures
--don't have to measure things in the middle of the night
--baby doesn't have...
My story in breastfeeding: My son was born at 32 weeks, weighing in at 4 pounds. Nearly a month in the NICU was tough on all of us, and I have a strong memory of being told by a lactation specialist when my son and I were having trouble nursing that if I didn't pump for him and he didn't latch on soon, my son would die.
I was hearbroken and eventually was SO stressed out from the multple trips to the NICU and that lactation specialist that I gave up on pumping and nursing altogether. I had this glamorous mothering idea of breastfeeding, and I was devasted. When my son had colic and another mother...
review »This is my first time breastfeeding but my third child. My first two kept ear infections and respitory infections. (they were NOT breastfed) My newest child has no problems and is a very happy baby. If you want to breastfeed but don't know if you can, here's how it finally worked for me. First thing is to buy the boppy pillow that has the back support and snaps to you. That is a lifesaver. It makes it so much easier and you have a free had to do other things. It also helps your back. Second I also pump extra for bottles. The nurses told me this wasn't a good idea because the child would have problems...
review »I won't go into the already fabulous reasons to breastfeed ( bonding, baby's nutrition, etc. ) that have been mentioned in previous reviews. I'll try to add some that haven't already been mentioned.. like..... it makes you SKINNY. I AM THINNER NOW THAN BEFORE I GOT PREGNANT. No gym..just exclusively breastfeeding for the first nine months!!!!
If you are a busy mom (and who isn't?)...who has time to prepare bottles and wash them all and how long can you prepare them in advance, anyway?...why stress???? Breastfeeding is food on the fly. Wether you are going out on an outing or to another continent...
review »It's clear that mother's milk is best for babies AND for the breastfeeding family. It's also clear that feeding artifical milk is inferior.
La Leche League really helped me learn the art of breastfeeding. Occasionally we hear of women who had some trouble getting off to a successful start. We don't as often hear from the women whose babies latched right on and had no troubles. They are the majority, but people seem to more often share the hard times. That's just human nature.
While breastfeeding is completely natural, that doesn't always mean it comes naturally to every mother. Women can find information...
review »BREAST MILK is the only food made for human babies! All the others are poor imitations which don't provide immunity to diseases and the exact nutrition babies need. Formulas can cause allergies, stomach upsets, smelly diapers, and developmental deficiencies. Not to mention the high costs! Breast milk is always the right temperature with no bottle warming needed. It is so much more convenient - at least when mom and baby are together. Pumping and storing for other times is not so great, but the great benefit for baby outweighs anything else. I breastfed all three of my babies and recommend...
