I know many have preached it and many more will come, but I must urge parents to remember the greatness of your own natural breast milk to feed your young baby.
Both my kids were premature babies and breast milk was always my first choice. My son came first, 1 month premature born 5 pounds 5 ounces. I was blessed that he didn't have to go into Baby Nic Unit care but they said if he loses any more weight he would have to. I was scared but went straight to breast feeding and thankfully he didn't lose any weight and we were able to leave for home after the 2 day stay.
My daughter was premature of 2 months and was a totally different story. She had to receive special Nic Unit care and weighed only 4 pounds 9 ounces. Yet I insisted that when possible I would prefer to breast feed. Right then she was not strong enough to suck nor stay awake enough to do anything. She started with a tube with sugar water, fed through the top of her head(it was the best vein they could get) and eventually supplemented my breast milk.
Today you would not even know they were both premature kids... one 6yrs old and the other at 13months, both smart, healthy and happy. I'm most proud of my little girl (13months old) 11 if you consider her corrected age of 2 months.... she has beat most odds and is walking early!
