My husband is an avid tea drinker (mostly iced) and I love the occasional pot of Earl Grey. As such, my search for the perfect water-boiler/tea maker was to satisfy several needs. Namely; quickly and easily brew up to a gallon of tea a day, not make a mess, and not burn any pans (or the house).
First we used the Mr. Coffee iced tea maker, which we ended up going thru 2 sets because of inherant flaws: the plastic carafes eventually crack from the spout down and ill-fitting components inevitably lead to spilled tea/water.
Then there was iced tea the old-fashioned way: boil tea bags in the saucepan....

I used to boil water for my tea the old fashioned way- on a stove. You know the old saying "A watched pot never boils"? Well sometimes I thought that an unwatched pot never boiled either.
A few years ago, my husband and I got this kettle as a gift.  I was skeptical- thinking that I'm going to have yet another useless appliance taking up space on my already crowded counter.  After the first time I used it, i put my traditional teapot away.  The kettle boiled the water so much faster then the stove.
Plus I have a tendency to walk out of the kitchen and forget that I put water on to boil. Well this...

I love the braun water kettle -- I've had it (in black) for 1 1/2 years now, and have never had a problem with it.  It boils water very fast, doesn't collect "deposits" the way I've heard other kettles do, and boils 2 cups just as well as 10 cups of water -- making it easier to make anything from tea to defrosting frozen veggies in no time, without me having to turn on the stove and watch a pot. It actually makes me make tea before I go to work and bring it with me, where I never used to because I had no time in the morning to worry about a tea kettle on the stove drying out or burning.  So in... read full review »

I first got this when I went off to college - that was over 5 years ago!  And where is it now?  It's in my first apartment after graduating from college!  This gadget is amazing.  Other people I know have commented how their electric kettles rust if extra/remaining water isn't poured out after each usage.  I leave water in there all the time, and reboil it with new water (i hate to waste) and it boils faster than a kettle would on a stove.  There's no rust at all, and the water that comes out piping hot does not have a "metal" taste that other electric and non-electric kettles may leave behind. ...
