Boxer Breed Review Summary

If you've ever owned a dog, you realize how they really are just like a member of the family. However, with each dog and dog breed comes a set of characteristics, and it's important to pick the right dog for you. Our reviewers think that a Boxer is very worth checking into. "This breed is very intelligent" says one dog trainer "they learn obedience better than most breeds; Shepherds, Labradors, Aussies and Border Collies." One dog lover says that their boxer is "wonderful with children and loves to play with other dogs, as long as he is not on a leash!!" Our reviewers say that their Boxers are a very loving breed, one describing theirs as "an 80 pound lap dog". Be warned, however, that boxers are very stubborn and will test their owners to see just how much they can get away with. Boxers are also known to get skin irritations and they do shed. That said, our reviewers think the positives far outweigh any negatives.

The Boxer breed is a great dog.  This breed is highly intelligent.  They learn obedience very quickly, much faster than most breeds; Shepherds, Labradors, Aussies, and Border Collies.  One thing though, they also can be quite stubborn.

I am a dog trainer and I started seeing Boxers come through...

Our Boxer will be 2 years old in March '09. Petey is a big, healthy 70 pound bundle of energy. My husband jokes and says, 'Petey is as dumb as a box of rocks!' Sadly that is true. He loves to eat, run, play and is so hard headed. He is still such a puppy. I would say Boxers are very loving but a lot... review »

I have a forteen month old boxer and he is the best dog.  He does have lots of energy but as long as he gets his 45minutes to 1 hour of play time he is soooo well behaved around the house...a tired dog is a happy dog.  I live in a small apartment and was concerned about getting a big dog, but he has turned out to be the perfect fit!!!

I grew up raising dogs and never thought that one dog breed could posses so many great traits! Boxers are loyal, funny, protective, and very obedient. They are always in need of attention though and do best with someone who can give it. They are great to have in a family with small children. They would absolutely put their life on the line to protect the baby of he house. On the down side of the boxer breed is just how much attention they need. It is just like having a 4 year old. Boxers do best if they have a routine as well. Bump them from their regular schedule and they will even become sad... review »

As a Boxer owner, or as I sometimes refer to myself as......... "duke's human friend", I sit back and think of a time around the house BEFORE BOXERS when it was quiet and not having toys laid all over the floor, and most disgusting........not having slobber draped down the window as if he's trying to do some sort of art work on the way to the store.  We recently bought a convertible, I never knew you could make a slobbering 85 pound animal so happy.  Boxers are a dog that once you have one......... you'll never stray from that breed.

I have a 6 year old male boxer that I absolutely love.  He is just a big 80 lb. lap dog, full of love and very affectionate.  He is wonderful with children and loves to play with other dogs, as long as he is not on a leash!! If he is leashed, he immediately turns into my protector and won't let other dogs close.  He does the goofiest things, and I love to hear him do the "Woo Woo" sound when he is being vocal.  Haven't had any health problems to date except for an occasional ear infection.

Hello we had a boxer since she was a puppy till she was about 11 years old. I believe cancer got her. But she was great, she was a puppy when we brought her home and my daughter was about one boy did they get along, found them both in the crate playing and once found the baby pacifier in the dogs mouth the right way like she was sucking on it.

She had a thing about chasing cars so we needed a high gate she could not get over.

She just loved people would jump on them and almost knock them over. Boxers are just so friendly and lovable and hyper, she was also protectfull of her family and she would...

I am a boxer lover and I would not own any other breed.  I have owned boxers for over twenty years.  I am happy to say that I have had the priviledge to breed a fantastic litter in which turned out a very intelligent male that has become a fantastic police drug dog and cadaver dog.  Not only am i proud of my brood, but they are the best dogs for children.  I owned my first for ten years before he died from a sudden seizure.  He was playful, never offered to bite, but was very protective and played with and licked children to death! LOL I later got his mate and she is still with me at the age... review »

My boxer, Rocko is not only our pet, but our child.  He is 2 1/2 years old. Boxers do not calm down like most breeds after 2 years old.  They often don't settle until about 4 years of age.  We  have seen some improvements within the last couple of months.  When we first obtained Rocko, we kept him in a kennel during our time out of the house.  He potty trained fairly quick.  When he was completely potty trained we left him in a bedroom while we were gone and just recently he is allowed all over the house.  I still have to make sure there are no temptations, such as my shoes sitting around. ...

I got our Boxer for my husband's birthday. We had a 3 month old baby at the time and had finally moved to a house where a dog was possible and my husband wanted one. I had previously owned a Boxer and knew they were excellent dogs for a family. We brought our Boxer puppy, Guinness home at 8 weeks old. He grew quickly the first year and became a full grown "coiled spring" Boxer by one year old. He weighs 65lbs and is about 25 inches from ground to his belly. He is now 4 years old and has calmed considerably in the past year, which could be he has a bloodhound for a playmate now, but still gets very...

This breed of dog is too big for me now, because I am disabled. But he can be trained not to jump up on me, then he would be ok.  These dogs are usually friendly, but can be trained to be good watch dogs, as well.  Like most pure breeds, he can be stubborn to teach, so have patience and know what you're doing.  I would not call him a "trick" dog.  After training, they make good in-house pets, but of course, they are larger dogs.  I love large dogs, but I live in a duplex w/ large dogs next door and they bark a lot.  A boxer will definitely bark back, and is very LOUD!

     I would like...

We've had Gracie since she was a puppy.  She's now 5.  She taught me to play fetch.  She knows several words:  ball, outside, bedtime, pizza, toy, "where's", food, hungry, water, eat, in.  If I ask "Where's Alex?" she'll go into his bedroom and sniff him good and come back.  If I ask "Where's daddy?" she'll jump up on the couch, look out to see if his truck is in the driveway, or go into the bedroom.  At bedtime she jumps up on the bed as we're settling in, for her belly rub and smooches.  Then it's "Goodnight Gracie, time for bed" and she's off to settle down herself.  She's very demanding... review »

I have 2 boxers and they are the best.  Not the most intelligent dogs ever, but very trainable.  Very lovable dogs that will protect if needed, especially of children.  They do have a downfall of seperation anxiety so if you are away from home alot this is not the pet for you.  They are very energetic and need lots of exercise, but don't tolerate extreme heat well.  Mine stay inside and were very easy to housetrain and crate train.  When they smile and their teeth stick thru their lip it will melt your heart.  They also don't tend to shed very much at all.  I think they are the greatest... review »

I have a Boxer, Her name is Patsy. She is a great dog. We found her abandond and she was in really bad shape. She had whip marks on her body and was covered in fleas and real skinny. It took her a long time befor she stopped flinching. But grew to love us quickly. Its a shame that whoever had her befor treated her so badly, Dont know why anyone would want to hurt an animal of any kind. Shes very spoiled and loving and protective. But trust me she has a stuborn streak in her..lol But we love her no matter what.

boxers are loud, fun, energetic balls of fun! they are extremely hyper, have a good personality, and think they are lap dogs, too. my boxer female is a loving, outgoing, spunky dog. boxers tend to test their owners, and they need patience and an understanding owner. training a boxer may take awhile, but in the end, it is worth it. they do tend to shed also, and are extremely hyper. they also have certain health issues, such as bloat, dandruff, a shortened nose, etc. overall, these are one of the best dogs to have and they will quickly win your heart!!
