This breed of dog is too big for me now, because I am disabled. But he can be trained not to jump up on me, then he would be ok. These dogs are usually friendly, but can be trained to be good watch dogs, as well. Like most pure breeds, he can be stubborn to teach, so have patience and know what you're doing. I would not call him a "trick" dog. After training, they make good in-house pets, but of course, they are larger dogs. I love large dogs, but I live in a duplex w/ large dogs next door and they bark a lot. A boxer will definitely bark back, and is very LOUD!
I would like to also say that this dog has an appetite commensurate his size, so make sure you can afford to feed him. And if he doesn't have plenty of exercise room, he will tend to get overweight. Be careful about that, as, just like with us, it isn't healthy for a dog to get fat. Feed him a high-energy, low fat diet. And he will learn to play with you, because he has the energy for it, but be careful of his size and weight, especially with children.
