Boudreaux's Butt Paste
My Viewpoint!
As a mother of two and a daycare owner, there are certain baby items that I always keep pretty stocked up on. Second only to food is diaper rash creams.
Usually the diaper rashes sneak up on me from nowhere and before I know it I could have a full fledged, red, irritated hiney on my hands! My cream of choice is Desitin Creamy, it works great. Sometimes I will get a coupon or see a great deal on other diaper rash creams and decide that I want to check them out and see how well it performs.
Hence my review on Boudreaux's Butt Paste.
I have seen the commercials for Boudreaux's Butt Paste and have even seen the creators on The Oprah Winfrey Show. I thought the story and the name of the product was unique and filed it away for future use. When I had noticed the fairly expensive Boudreaux's on sale at my local Target store, I figured there was no time like the present to try out the infamous Butt Paste and bought a tube.
It wasn't long until I had to use Boudreaux's Butt Paste and upon opening the package, I was instantly put off by the smell. I don't expect diaper rash creams to smell like roses but most brands have a distinctive smell that resemble each other. Boudreaux's Butt Paste had a stink that set me back. I don't really know how to explain it other than it smelled "thick". I hope that makes sense.
The other factor that kind of startled me was the color of the Butt Paste. Most creams are white or clear, such as A&D Ointment. Boudreaux's Butt Paste was a weird brown color that I didn't expect to see. This didn't sway me from trying the diaper rash cream and I actually thought that maybe the creators used less chemicals (to not create a white color) in the Butt Paste, thus making it even safer to use on children. I still don't if there is a specific reason why the Boudreaux's Butt Paste is brown instead of white or if it even matters.
Upon applying Boudreaux's Butt Paste to the diaper rash area, I was delighted to notice that the thick cream went on and spread easily. I could tell that the thickness of the Butt Paste would keep the red area protected from spreading.
Approximately one hour later while doing a diaper change, I was happy to see that the rash hadn't spread or gotten worse (more red or bumpy) and that the Butt Paste had provided a thick barrier preventing the baby waste from touching the covered area.
Over the course of a day, I had found that the Boudreaux's Butt Paste had protected the area from any further infection and had provided a great barrier for the skin. What I was displeased to find was that the Butt Paste wasn't healing up the diaper rash. The diaper rash hadn't gotten any better or worse (thankfully). Maybe it takes a little longer to kick in and work? I wasn't ready to give up on the $8.00 tube of brown paste and decided to give it another day. (Please note: By this time Desitin Creamy would have been working magic and almost healed the basic diaper rash) At the end of day two, I was very disappointed in Boudreaux's Butt Paste. It did a great job protecting the diaper rash from spreading or getting worse but it had not done it's job in healing the affected area.
Keeping all this in mind, I wasn't ready to give up on good ole Boudreaux's Butt Paste yet (so many people boast about this product, after all) and came up with an effective plan.
1. Apply Desitin Creamy to diaper rash area.
2. Apply Boudreaux's Butt Paste on top of Desitin Creamy to give a thick, protective barrier.
Guess what? My idea worked. At the very next diaper change, I noticed that the rash was starting to heal and the Butt Paste had provided an effective layer of protection.
So now the question is this. Do I recommend Boudreaux's Butt Paste to Mothers? Sure. IF you don't expect quick healing. Do expect a stinky, brown, thick cream that will halt the spreading rash and protect baby's skin.
Don't want to spend $8.00 on a tube of Boudreaux's Butt Paste? I just found an address where you can apply for a free sample!
