Fade away, fade away, fad....

I'm under the age of thirty, which by most standards is a little young to actively enlist in the war on anti-aging. To naysayers, I say phooey! I refuse to go down scathed! While I was genetically blessed with a smooth complexion, I was not blessed with an off switch for aging. My name is Rachael, and I'm a Botox fanatic...

My story began two years ago when I began to notice deep (I say deep, most people thought I was crazy) but I felt like the section between my eyebrows began to show advanced signs of aging. While most people didn't notice my wrinkles until I pointed them out, it's something I could see everyday. The furrowing in my brow became prevalent in photographs, when I glanced in my rear view mirror, when I did my makeup... I wasn't obsessive in a vain sort of way, I was just really unhappy having wrinkles on my face!

Fill me in

The modern world of medicine has waged an incredible war on aging. Each and every day, more and more women ages 18-65 are taking advantage of superior, affordable treatments to reverse the signs of aging. What most people don't realize is the shear volume of treatments available and what these treatments actually do. Products like Restylane Juvederm, Radiesse, Sculptra, all of these are FILLERS. Fillers actually fill wrinkles, similar to filling a water balloon, creating a smooth level surface on the skin. While fillers are effective, they are incredibly costly and offer a temporary fix that lasts about three to five months. Botox is also temporary but the results, in my opinion, are far more significant. True, the other methods do reduce or eliminate fine lines and wrinkles by filling them, but I prefer to go straight to the source; the muscles that make them!

Boats and Oxes, Bio toxin?... What's that stuff again?

BOTOX, or, Botulinum Toxin type A is a purified protein, plain and simple. Don't reach for your biohazard suit yet, Botulinum Toxin type A is incredibly user friendly. Botox is a bovine derived; naturally occurring protein that temporarily paralyzes the muscles that lead to frown lines in your face. The bovine protein is gradually absorbed into your facial muscles and, in essence, shuts them down a little. When Botox is properly administered, most patients respond remarkably well to this treatment.

As with anything else on the market, Botox can have side-effects. Some people have experienced one or more of the following; swelling, numbness in the injection site, bruising, itching, and drooping eyelids, but these occurrences are far and few. In fact, over 3.3 million women and men annually partake of the moo juice. I for one thoroughly enjoy the rapid results of a good Botoxing. The five or six stinging pricks are well worth the five or six months of not so much as a furrow in my brow. The wrinkles of my past, aka- my entire "mommy brow" - diminished, due to not being able to use the muscles in my forehead.

About....Face!

Botox has a lasting, building effect when you continue treatments regularly. As you continue, the need for the amount of Botox necessary to achieve desired results lessens. Personally, I can tell when the treatment begins to wane, usually every five to six months I need a re-charge, but as always, results will vary.  I love the fact that I don't have an unnatural or "plasticy" appearance from receiving regular Botox injections.

I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars a month on expensive creams or serums, but I'll gladly spend ~15-25 dollars per unit of BOTOX for proven, lasting effects. They're doing something right at Allergan Pharmaceuticals because Botox is approved by the FDA, it works for millions of users, and most importantly - I'm happy!!!

Wait 6-8 weeks for "over the counter" products to work? - if ever??? ...No thanks! My BOTOX takes 10 minutes.

Loved the review!! I have a DEEP line under my chin and I am sooo self conscious about it. I wouldn't mind having Botox injections and after reading your review, I'm seriously thinking about it. Thank you for sharing!!

I used to work as a clinic manager for a bunch of ophthalmologists. (Say THAT word 3 times really fast!), and they did botox injections on, ahem!...uh...older folks for muscle spasms around the eyes. Looked quite painful....great review!

Wow, great review! I've never known anyone who has actually gotten Botox before. Thanks for the info.

I totally agree with you; however, I am one of the few who is immune to Botox. I went back and my doc injected me with more at her expensive and still there was so little change and what little there was lasted one month. So for me it's the knife I guess. Sometimes I'm tempted to try it just once more but at $750 it's an expensive experiment. Jo over 50!!

I just read that when people get Botox, other muscles have to work to make up for the ones paralyzed and then more lines form making Botox kind of addictive. But I do agree that no cream, no matter how expensive, can ever achieve the results Botox can. They can say otherwise but they'd be lying!
