You have not owned a dog until you have been owned by a Boston Terrier! We have a eight year old female BT who ownes us wholeheartedly. She came to me when she was six months old. She was timid and scared and very depressed. Within a week, you could just see her little personality blossom! She is very much the center of attention at our house and has been since the week after we got her home.
It has been my experience with BT's that they are loyal, smart and affectionate little dogs. Bubbles has the personality of a queen, royal and loyal! She is very attached to me and our home. She will let you know whether or not she likes other places or people by her manerisms. She has very distinct likes and dislikes and she voices her opinion without a problem!
Recently we took in a very young male BT to find him a forever home. Bubbles snorted at him and went to lay in her bed. To us that meant "he can stay, but not for long!". Since then she has become friends with him on her terms. Spikey is rambunctious and playful and never stops. Bubbles has let him know where his limits lie and he abides by them... most of the time.
They are the two extremes of BT's. She is eight years old and weighs in at 15 pounds. He is tall and lanky, almost one year old and nearly 25 pounds! Bubbles is quiet, serene and laidback for the most part. Spikey is totally off the wall, bouncing, running and playing nearly 24/7! He will play fetch for hours on end while she sits on the sidelines and watches. She is the best lapdog you could ask for, laying beside me as i crochet or watch movies. He is more interested in sniffing out whatever lies in wait in our fenced in back yard. She sleeps in our bed, snuggled up with her head on the pillow. He is totally convinced that his place is in the living room on guard for the smallest noise!
They are both excellent watch dogs in their own right. Spikey will be at attention at the slightest noise and bark and jump on you when the doorbell or the phone rings. Bubbles will nudge me when the alarm goes off and I don't silence it fast enough for her. She will also acknowledge the phone ringing by looking up to see if I am moving towards answering it! She barks when someone is at the door, even if she has been fast asleep in the bedroom.
They are both very smart and we have lowered ourselves to spelling in their presence. They remind me of children in lots of ways. Bubbles will get grumpy if she doesn't get her way and will sulk if she knows one of us is leaving. When I go to work, she will pout all day until she somehow knows it is time for me to come home. She will sit by the door and cry until I pull into the driveway.
Overall, I am very happy with being owned by a Boston Terrier dog. She gives me that unconditional love that everyone needs in their lives!
