Boston Spirit is a free bi-monthly magazine that's geared towards the gay and lesbian community in Boston and its suburbs. The magazine is well written and interesting for most locals, though it does tend to fall towards the high ends of taste, when it comes to content and advertisements, which may be beyond the reach of most readers.
Overall the magazine does do a decent job at looking at gay and lesbian life in Boston, from the swanky parties to the latest fashions. It might be a bit rarer to find strong journalistic articles, but they are there and generally each issue has at least one well thought out and presented article on a topic that is of interest to almost any gay and lesbian resident of the Boston area.
As you would expect with a free magazine, advertisements do make up a significant portion of the magazine. They are not quite on every page, but they do make up at least half of the magazine and are scattered throughout most articles and stories. The ads aren't overwhelming.
My Take
If you're gay or lesbian and in the Boston area - consider getting yourself a free subscription to Boston Spirit and if you're just visiting, find a copy at a local bookstore or café - you might learn a thing or two about gay and lesbian life in Boston.
