Bose VCS-10 Center Speaker: A Great Addition

4

Bose VCS-10 Center Speaker: A Great Addition Adding the Bose VCS-10 Center channel after not having a very good experience with the Bose bookshelf speakers felt very wierd. This speaker actually sounds great compared to those! This center speaker has a small form factor and hence can easily be installed. It is also very light for the kind of sound it puts out. Our room is a medium sized one and this center is able to fill it with sound pretty well. Not as good as my JBL S center but not very bad either. Lets say bang for the buck! Bose does something with the waveguides i.e. move the air behind the speakers in a certain way to generate the spaciousness of the sound stage and this speaker excels at doing that. I was pleasantly surprized by the clarity and crispness of the sound from this center channel speaker. We are using this speaker in a 3.1 type home theater system setup with a set of monitor audio front channels and a JBL sub woofer.

Another Top Notch Speaker from Bose - VCS-10 Center

4

Here is another top notch product by Bose. Of course what do you expect from the leader of speakers. I bought this speaker about 5 years ago when I was building my surround sound system for my home. This center channel speaker was complimented by two sets of Boston Acoustic Speakers, bookshelf size for space consideration. I was very pleased with the sound that this speaker put out and was worked very well with my other equipment. When using this center channel speaker, it is best to be using a medium to high grade output device with amplifier. Otherwise the sound you will get will be muffled. Bose recommends using this speaker with other Bose speakers. But in my opinion, you can GET AWAY with using other speakers / equipment from other manufactures as long as they are of a high quality.

Bose VCS10: Good budget center channel

4

Bose VCS10: Good budget center channel speaker. I bought the bose vcs10 center channel as part of a home theater setup in a spare room in our house. This speaker is being used with a set of Bose 201 front left and right speakers and a yamaha rx-v567 7.1 receiver, a polk audio subwoofer and bose rear channel speakers. I use an oppo dvd player with it. This center channel came as a recommendation from a friend who really likes bose. I am not a bose fanboy, but for the price point, I really liked the sound that this speaker puts out. It uses smaller drivers so it has a nice slim profile to put on top or below your high definition TV set, but at the same time the sound quality equals or surpasses that put out by center channels carrying 5inch or larger drivers. The key here is the bose wave guide technology that uses smaller drivers but can move air in a certain way to produce better low end sound. Like with the bose 201s this speaker put out a good sound stage and is very well suited to playback of live music recordings.

whats that i hear?

5

Well when my surround sound system originally went out i went to a bose store in the mall, i heard a lot of good things about them but i just knew they were so expensive. But i also got tired of paying less and recieving pure crap that breaks every other month. Believe it or not they are not that unresonabley expensive. I needed a new center speaker and they recommended the VCS-10 Center Speaker to me. At frist i said this little thing cant put out all the sound i need. Boy was i wrong. It's load and has some amazing sound quality. It turned out to be better than any of the speakers i actually had. I would deffinetly say bose products are worth the extra bucks. Its also pretty durable and has a 3 year guarantee that the sound will stay crisp and loud and i just love the quality. I will admit it is better to spend a little more and get something amazing then spend less and have to keep buying all the time. I give it an A

Great Sound

5

I purchased the Bose center channel speaker for my surround sound system. I cannot believe what a difference it makes to the theatre experience. My wife even noticed how much better everything sounds. Some reviewers give it low marks, but I question how they set it up. You very easily can understand the dialogue as it is very crisp and clean. I have it tied into my present Bose Acoustimass seven speaker system, which has four front cubes, subwoofer and two rear speakers. It is very important that the speakers all match. Maybe that was a problem with some of the other reviewers. One reviewer mentioned he could barely hear the dialogue. I feed my center channel through my Onkyo SR-706 receiver like I do for the rest of my system. Understanding the dialogue is easy and it is plenty loud enough after I calibrated my system through my receiver's calibration system. I am completely satisfied with the product as my home theatre experience just moved to another level.

Rare Disappointment

2

The Bose VCs-10 center channel speaker is a rare miss by a great brand.  We expected to get the type of sound quality that we've been accustomed to with all our Bose products.  The center channel design is clean and minimal and looks great like many of their other products.  Yet that's where most of our rave's end.  The design drew up in, with its compact style and could fit just about anywhere and not look over bearing on our TV stand, but at the end of the day, it's probably what limits the sound from being great.  The frequency range is very limited, especially in a large room.  This was very disappointing as our other Bose products at very low volumes sound like giant speakers.  For those action movies especially the sound will be underwhelming, nothing that makes you feel like your enjoying a movie theater experience.  You'll have a difficult time hearing dialogue no matter what movie you're trying to enjoy.  For the Bose fans that expect the best and great sound quality, this is one of the rare mistakes they have in their arsenal, and frankly we're still surprised that they are selling it.  Don't make our mistake and take design over substance, you'll be very disappointed.

It all depends on placement!

5

I received this speaker as a gift for xmas. When I first plugged it in, I experienced the same problem that other people had complained about...the voices seemed weak and difficult to understand. I turned the dB level all the way up and it became tolerable, but still not very good. I then happened across a website that discussed speaker placement. It suggested placing the center speaker directly above or below the tv (duh), but also said to make sure it was reasonably level with the tweeters on the side speakers (within about a foot). I made this adjustment and WOW! It was like night and day. The sound was incredible! Those of you who had problems might want to try something along these lines, and those of you checking this speaker out in stores should make sure everything is aligned properly when you listen. Hope that helps.  This speaker definitely needs to go into your buy category as it is incredible when you get it set up properly!

best speaker out there

5

Bose is the best overall speaker out there. I is average to pricy. But, is definitly worth every penny. I have been buying Bose speakers all my life. If you need to get a expert to tell you just look at consumer reports magazine. They will tell you every time that they are top ranked speaker out there. I love the fresh crisp sound that these speaker give off. I have bought a few different kinds over the years and everytime I buy Bose and never disappointed with this brank. They have such a great sound. There is no messy back ground noise you might get with other brand speakers. I still have every speaker I've bought from Bose and I've never need to replace any one of them. I have them in my main living room for my surround sound. Aslo, I use these speakers in my kitchen and bed room. Everyone sounds great. You can have them as soft or loud as you like with out any problem with back ground interference.

Bose VCS-10 Center speaker. It's what was missing...

5

Being the audiophile I claim to be.  I must recommend upgrading your home theater surround sound system with this **Bose VCS-10 Center Speaker**.  I have a rather small living room and did not want to take away even more space by upgrading my surround system to one of those you see with towering front stage speakers but, any loss in sound quality was simply out of the question.  When I heard this speaker at the store I was impressed but after installing it at home.  I could not believe the deference one speaker made in a system designed for 6.1.  Of course it brought out the dialog great as expected but, the crispness it added to the highs and richness it added to the lows was unbelievable. Also, the speaker itself was smaller than the original center stage that came with my surround system. I know it sounds hard to believe but yes going out and buying one speaker made more of a deference than purchasing a whole new system.  I have always been a fan of Bose but, now I am a customer for life.
