I admit I only use my Bose headphone when I'm flying and need to drown out the screaming child 3 rows back or the obnoxious couple sitting right behind me. The headphones allow me to shut them out and enjoy my music or audiobook. On long flights when we pull out the laptop and watch our own movies, the Bose are a must for clarity so you can hear the dialog over the roar of the plane. The Bose also come in handy on cross country road trips when you are traveling with a heavy metal fan and you prefer bluegrass.  We treat our headphones with great care and have not had any problems.
