I purchased the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 headphones a few years ago when I traveled at lot for work, and I have to say that they are well worth the hefty price tag.  I hesitated with the purchase, as there are many other decent options out there for much less...but none that sound as good.  I used to be on an airplane at least twice a week for work, and these headphones were awesome.  The noise cancellation feature is awesome, it cuts the ambient noise on the plane and allows you to concentrate on your music.  On top of getting rid of the annoying sounds on the plane, the sound quality of these headphones is fantastic.  You will hear new aspects of songs you have listened to many times before...it will amaze you.  The leather-wrapped ear cups are very comfortable and allow you to keep them on for hours on end.  You can even use the noise cancellation feature without plugging them in, which is a nice feature if you want to go to the library and shut out the ambient noise to concentrate on a book or school.
