We are always looking for energy savers, as well as a good quality dishwasher for a reasonable price. When we started looking at the Bosch products, we were quite impressed with the fact that they were recommend by Consumer Report, and that they were supposed to use so much less energy, and were supposed to be extremely quiet. Our salesman pushed it's "green features and we also were swayed by the rebate to have it installed free. We looked at the Kitchenaide, and also Whirlpool, but finally went with the Bosch SHE4AM16UC. It was installed and it is very quiet. One thing you have to get used to with this washer, is there is no drying cycle, and you can NOT open the dishwasher anytime during, or it will not complete the cycle, nor will it dry your dishes. It dries them by forced air drying, and this is where they say they are saving you money. There is not a easy way to determine when your load is finished, as the lights stay on all the time, and you have to manually turn it off. The thing I do NOT like about this dishwasher, is the bottom wrack. They sell you saying how many "place settings" this washer will wash, however what you do not realize until you have it home, is, that it is not very practical on the bottom wrack. The tines are way too far apart and really is only suitable for plates and some pots and pans. One side you can not obstruct, because of the air drying, the vent must not be blocked. Anything smaller will fall through the tines, and even glasses will not sit properly in the bottom, and fall over and clang together. I have looked in the manual, found no solution, and have contacted the company about replacing the wrack with one out of their SHE6AP05UC, in which the tines make sense, and are where any type of item can be loaded in the lower wrack. The silverware basket is an odd size and they have a space allowed that is way too big, takes up precious space, and rattles around, because of not sitting snugly along the front, or side. I voiced all my concerns to Bosch, and why I find the design of my dishwasher to be flawed, and they only offered to sell me the replacement wrack, at half cost. I feel it is more cost efficient to have all basket wracks the same, on all machines, and it shows something is wrong if only their higher end dishwashers have wracks that are suitable for all sizes and shapes of items the every day housewife needs to load. I stretched my budget to afford this dishwasher, yet I feel they know they have issues with the lower wrack, yet only want me to pay more. I chose to write a review instead, to say know what you are getting beforehand. I think it is unfair of the company to expect more $ to recitfy what I find is a flawed concept of something as simple as washing dishes.
