I have had the Bosch Nexxt 500plus washer for about 10 weeks now and I am very happy with it. It replaced a noisy Hotpoint top-loader that never really did a good job at cleaning but used huge amounts of water and energy.
This washer has many cycles and extra options to get many different temperatures, spin speeds and tumbling action. It has an internal heater that can heat the incoming water up to 170 degrees (xxtra sanitary cycle). This cycle can be used to sanitize white or light colored towels and sheets, rags and other things like that.
The heater also gives you the option to do a so-called profile wash when you select the heavy duty option. This means that the wash starts out with tap cold water and during the cycle the heater engages and heats the water to the desired temperature. This is a great way to eliminate protein based stains like grass and blood which would get set in by using hot water.
Another great option is the soak cycle. It is a 2 hour cycle that you can use to soak your clothes, bedding or towels in a detergent or oxiclean solution. I have gotten great results in cleaning baby comforters and mattress pads that have been through the washer and dryer before but were still stained. I pre-treated the worst stains with oxiclean before putting them into the washer and then I used oxiclean for the soak cycle as well. Since the soak cycle uses cold water I have added a little bit hot water through the detergent dispenser to activate the oxiclean. After the soak cycle is complete you pick and start the normal wash cycle. I was impressed that this took care of those old set in stains.
I think this washer offers a great amount of features and options while it is still very easy to operate. I use a powdered HE detergent and just use half the recommended amount and get great results. In addition to the water and energy savings you can save a lot of money on detergents and additives. The hot cycles are a great alternative to using liquid chlorine bleach.
Our washer is located in the kitchen over concrete, so we don't have any vibration problems. Due to the location it is important to us to have a quiet washer. It is a lot quieter than our old washer. You can hear the water slushing around, the pump engaging and the motor during the high spin speed. Other than that, the normal operation is very quiet.
I can highly recommend this washer. After all the discounts I paid less than $900 for it and it is worth every penny.
