Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan Review Summary

Either you love it or hate it, is the best way to sum up Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Sacha Baron Cohen brings his character from the Da A li G Show to the big screen that some feel is only funny "in smaller doses," similar to The Simpsons Movie. Borat does its best to expose some of the "biases and ugliness of the American underbelly." While some reviewers find this mockumentary to be entertaining and audacious, others find it to be boringly offensive. Cohen was sued by a number of people that appeared in Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, originally thinking it was real, causing a hype surrounding the film that it could never live up to.

Borat caught my fancy. That's hard to do. Fancies are pretty personal. — If you've been living under a rock or off the radar, then Borat - Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan was a hot film a few months back. Like many Saturday Night Live sketch characters that are brilliant and hilarious as 15 minute sketches once a week, but fail to hold up as full length movies,Borat is much funnier in smaller doses. The Borat skits on the Ali G show were some of the funniest parts of that show. However, at… read full review »

The original 82 minute theatrical version of Borat was rude, crude, full of sophmoric and scatological humor, not for the easily offended.  On the surface it's a elaborate Candid Camera/ Punk'd gimmick film.   But there's much much more to this. — Borat is a satire on America, particularly America's attitude that it is not only the best, but welcomes immigrants and believes in justice for all. — If you are familiar with Sacha Baron Cohen's HBO show-- Da Ali G Show, you know what you are in for.  In fact the character of Borat was developed on the cable… read full review »

This is one of those rare movies that will make you laugh so hard, you'll pee!! This movie does take a certain sense of humor to enjoy though. If you're a lover of potty humor and juvinile gags (like myself), and not offended by cursing, nudity and anything else generally considered offensive....this is right up your alley!!! — I'll have to say, for myself at least, this is also a HIGHLY QUOTABLE movie!! It just never gets old!! I cant tell you how many times I have watched this movie, and I just keep laughing. — Great party movie or a movie to show to your friends when beer and… read full review »

When this was in the theaters still, I wnet with my husband, best friend, and parents. I was somewhat familiar with Sascha Baron Cohen from Da Ali G Show, and knew my mom would not enjoy this, but she came along anyway. — — My dad, friend, husband and I laughed so hard we all were crying throughout the entire film, which is hard to do. Yes, this movie is over the top, gross at times, and vulgar most of the time, but is DAMN funny. It is also original, smart, political, anthropological, thought-provoking, and brilliant. And those are qualities that are hard ro come by in our… read full review »

I'm a ball buster and have a great sense of humor but yet, I didn't laugh once during this movie.  This movie was retched!  I'm so glad I rented it first before wasting my money on buying it.  My husband only made it 15 minutes into the movie and left the room. — I love crude humor but this movie stunk!  It was stupid.  The concept of it was just idiotic.  It didn't even fit one of those "it's so stupid, it's funny" movies.  — It's already on the shelf at the local thrift store next to Brittany Spears and Backstreet Boys for… read full review »

This one you don't have to waste your time on!  I was looking so forward to watching this as there were so many fabulous reviews...what a disappointment too!  Ready to sit and be entertained instead I was NOT IMPRESSED!  Some cute lines make you laugh but all in all, just a waste of time!  Vulgar, just plain vulgar at times and not needed for story line...definitely not one the kids need to be in the room either.  WOuld not recommend, very disappointing! —… read full review »

This movie was not at all what I expected.  I knew before I went that it was controversial and had seen the reviews and thought it was funny.  Most of the funny stuff was on the reviews.  The rest was just stupid.  And that nude scene....ugh.  I had to was my brain out with soap when I got home.  My husband said it gave him nightmares! … read full review »

What can I say about Borat? This had to be one of the stupidest movies I have ever watched! It was recommended to me by several people and I had high hopes for it. I have to say that I really hated this movie. I enjoy stupid comedies and love kooky humor but this was not funny. AND the naked wrestling scene!! I lost sleep over… read full review »

If you don't like crude humor, you don't want to watch this movie.  But if it doesn't bother you.....OMG!!!!  You will love it!  I was laughing so hard during scenes of this movie, I had to rewind it to see what I missed.  The scene with Borat & his friend fighting completely nude was.......UNBELIEVABLE!  I could NOT believe they were actually showing what I was seeing!  It was outrageous! — The con about this movie is that at times, Borat is really hard to understand.  My husband & I had to help each other understand what he was saying.  And… read full review »

This movie is one of the most offensive, terrible, unfunny movies I have ever seen. My husband and I are both fans of satirical humor. We watch a lot of "stupid" movies and find them hilarious! He was of the impression that this would be one of those movies.....he was WRONG! This movie was offensive to everything thing that I am. It's offensive to christianity or pretty much just religion in general. It's offensive to Americans and other countries as well. It wasn't funny in the least, or even a little bit believable. The fact that any of the people in this film fell for this man's "act" is… read full review »

Finally had the opportunity to watch this and try to understand the hype surrounding this. After viewing this I thought it was silly to an extent regarding these culture clashes. The way the film is made is quite unorthodox because there are few actors and the main part of characters are people who really think they are talking to a reporter from Kazakhstan, just a candid camera. It is not surprising the huge controversy aroused as some of the people tricked into the 'documentary' have already sued Cohen. — — The film is funny and you will sure laugh at one stage or another.… read full review »

The movie films Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen, of "Ali G." fame) as he takes a journey across America so he can document American culture. Along the way he falls in love with Pam Anderson and decides that he is destined to marry his dream-women. This is Borat's first time in the US so he isn't used to the customs or modern conveniences (such as a commode that flushes.) — — Along the way Borat meets, interviews, and speaks with various Americans. "Borat" is a thousand times more vulgar than any other adult-comedy and makes "South Park" look like a sweet Disney picture. — … read full review »

Sometimes you know in the first few seconds that something is going to earn a cult-like following.  Blazing Saddles, Rocky Horror and now Borat.  Films like these have layers that unpeal as you return for repeat viewings.  And, the best part about them is the layers are more and more insanely stupid. — Once upon a time while working on tv sports crewsfor ESPN, we had contests among seasoned road veterans for the sickest joke they could imagine.  I wouldn't dare print any of the winners.  SBC might not have always won the contest, but he would… read full review »
