I nursed all three of my children, but did not get my first Boppy until I had #3 (my son.) With my first two children, I learned how to nurse them using regular pillows as support. Two weeks after having my son, I suffered from muscle spasms in my neck that made it difficult and painful to hold him while nursing. A friend recommended the Boppy to me, and I decided to pick one up to try it. I paid $20 for it, but it was worth so much more! I ended up using it at every day-time feeding for the next couple of months and got to enjoy that bonding time with my son regardless of the muscle pain.
While having a Boppy isn't an absolute necessity (I proved that with my first two) it did make my life a little bit easier the third time around. It's an inexpensive investment and very easy to clean. I purchased a few extra slip covers that came in very handy and could just be thrown in the washing machine.
Once my son began to sit and roll, it was useful to put around him for a soft, safe play area. I also think it helped him with his strength development, as I would place him on it on his belly to get that 'tummy time.'
The only downside is that once your child becomes mobile, the Boppy becomes somewhat obsolete.
I would definitely recommend this product to others, and have purchased it for other moms-to-be that I know!
