Bob, is he the one who wrote/sang "City of New Orleans"? That name sounds very familiar. One of my favorite Jimmy Buffett covers is of that song and I think he credits it to Steve Goodman.
Yup, that's the one. He was a terrific singer/songwriter and was in Buffet's band for a while. Among other songs, Goodman wrote the theme song of the Chicago Cubs (
Go Cubs Go!). Sadly, he died of leukemia in 1984 at the age of 37. What a loss... he was a one-of-a-kind performer.
