We are here to discuss about how to make kids more inclined towards reading and which books are really good for them?

"A good book on your shelf is a friend that turns its back on you and remains a friend"

I am really very much inspired by the above saying and I strongly feels that at present when children are more into video games they should be inclined more towards reading and at the same time being a parent we should be very responsible about what they should read because their personality get formed by the material they read.In their early age the book they read works as a foundation on which the building of their future stands.

So we are here to discuss about how to make kids more inclined towards reading and which books are really good for them?

As my opinon goes I think reading with your child and having a discussion on that really motivates them towards reading and i found highlight magzines and reader's digest really good for the kids.

I would like to know your opinion on it too.

Thanks for being with me over here. : )

I started a book collection for our son. He is only 19 months, but loves looking at books. he likes anything with amimals that he reconizes and makes the animal sounds. He also like a book my father got him called Shiny Touchy Smelly First words. by Sarah Phillips.  Dr. Seuss is also good books. We started early reading to him at night. (not as often as we should)  My husband has even started reading Harry Potter to him. He lays in the bed and listens untill he falls asleep. I know he may not know what really goes on in the book, but he is getting the concept that reading is a good thing and its time for my husband and him to bond.

I have had my sons in the book club since my oldest was a baby. None of my kids will let me sit down and actually read to them.

Setting a regular reading time each day makes reading become a ritual for kids.  You can do afternoon stories before naps or make this a bedtime routine by reading a story together  before bed each night.  Younger kids love to have stories read to them and this can be a shared event by letting them help read the story or reading to you on some nights.  Holding their interest by having fun and interesting books on hand on a variety of subjects is the key.

Get books with the same topics which your kids are interested in in other media.

For instance, if you have a girl who's into princess movies, get her a princess book. If you have a boy who's into robots, get a Bionicle book (or whatever). Comic books are a good bridge since they're picture heavy. Also, innovative educational toys like the Leapster for instance make a good bridge into reading. Once the kids figure out they can get a good story by reading, the pictures matter less as their imaginations take over.

Unless you're going to starve your kids of modern media, the approach to making reading appealing has to keep pace with the times.
