Boogie Wipes Saline Wipes, Magic Menthol —

Quick View: I'm a wipes fanatic. I have wipes for makeup removal, for freshening up, with antibacterial ingredients, flushables, you name it. I saw Boogie Wipes Saline Wipes, Magic Menthol at drugstore.com and was curious. They said the wipes would relieve congestion as well sooth sore noses. They're also fine for general use such as use on hands and even the face. I bought them but am having a little trouble figuring out what to do with them.

About Boogie Wipes Saline Wipes, Magic Menthol

These wipes come in a plastic bag with a plastic flip open top. The wipes are covered with a sticky strip to keep them moist. There are 30 wipes per package. True to their name, they smell like menthol and they really do open up my sinuses. As an allergy sufferer, I'm either stuffed up or have a runny nose and menthol scents are soothing to me.

Although these are called "Magic Menthol", they actually contain no menthol. They are infused with eucalyptus and rosemary and also contain Vitamin E, chamomile, and aloe. They're alcohol free and hypoallergenic. They're thin, soft wipes and about the size of makeup remover wipes. They are moist but not wet.

But the question is, do I blow my nose into these things? I've never blown my nose into wet tissues before. That's sort of funky. They do feel cool and soothing and the scent does wake up my senses but I'm just not into using these as tissues. I may be, though, if I had a bad cold and my nose was sore and red from using traditional tissues.

These wipes can be used for general clean up on the body and even the face. They do freshen up hands well and dry quickly. They're not too sticky or too wet to use as quick hand wipes. I even tried them on my face for a cooling, hot weather fresher upper and they seemed to work fine. I didn't have any sort of reaction to the wipes. I don't use these for makeup removal but they will be with me when I go to the lake in the heat. I can freshen up and cool off at the same time.

The company makes grape smelling wipes for kids (or adults who like the scent) and plain saline wipes as well. All are touted as congestion relieving wipes to break down mucus although they also are advertised for quick clean ups.

I'm really on the fence about these wipes. I don't know whether to blow my nose into them, use them as clean up wipes, or use them when I'm congested to open up my sinuses. I guess I could inhale them...

My Viewpoint

Boogie Wipes Saline Wipes, Magic Menthol are curious little wipes. I think, if I have a cold and my nose is sore from using traditional tissues, these might be soothing. The menthol scent opens up my sinuses and is pleasant. The wipes are fine as general purpose hand and body wipes and even can be used on the face (They are, after all , made to be used on the nose which is on the face!). For about $3.99 for 30 wipes, they're average priced. If you suffer from allergies or blow your nose a lot, these may be very soothing for you. If you just like the scent of menthol and want a general purpose wipe for use on the hands or wherever, these work fine. I'm going with 3 stars only because I really don't know what the heck to do with them. I'll probably appreciate them more when I get a summer cold (and I WILL get one.) and need something soothing for my sore nose.

This actually sounds like something I would love to use in the winter time. I usually stuff Kleenexes up my nose OR rub Vicks under my nose so I can breathe.

In response to lilsquibb's comment from Jun 6, 2009 at 7:44PM:

I'll have to go see the video. I am perplexed at how the grape scent could loosen mucus in kids but I can see wiping kids' runny noses with these would be less harsh than tissues. I hope I don't get a cold but I will and then I suspect the Boogie Wipes will be mucho appreciated.
