Booda Dome Clean Step Litter Box —

I've owned a Booda Dome Clean Step Litterbox for about four years. I purchased the "Booda Box", as I call it, for several reasons. I liked the igloo-like shape of the box, and I thought that the ramp and steps on the box would do a good job of catching litter off our cat's feet as they went into and out of the litter box.

Using the Booda Box
The box is easy to set up, consisting of only two main pieces. It came with a charcoal filter that you can insert in the top of the hood. The company claims that this filter is the magical secret to "superior odor control". I don't buy it. I used the filter, but when it came out a few months later, I never bothered to replace it.

To get into the Booda box, cats must walk up the ramp at least a little before heading into the litter area, which is shaped with a curve (think of half of the yin-yang symbol) inside. The litter area is roomy and our cats never miss or hit the sides of the box.

The little stairs are supposed to help knock the litter off your cat's feet as they walk down them upon exiting the box. This box does a good job of controlling the spread of kicked around litter, but stray litter still manages to find its way out of the box from the cat's feet.

Cleaning the Booda Box
We use clumping litter in our Booda box, so we don't have a liner on the base. I don't think you could put a liner on this base if you wanted to. The box is easily accessed by removing the domed lid (which has a convenient handle) but if you keep your cat's litterbox in a tight area, be forewarned that you need plenty of space to put the lid while you clean the box.

The major issue with the box is that due to the curved shape of the litter area, I find it tough to scoop litter in the areas where there's a curve and a corner. Litter breaks up in this area. It's not a deal-killer, though.

Cat's Bottom Line
If you're looking for a private litterbox that helps control (but doesn't completely eliminate) the spread of clumping litter in your litterbox area, the Booda box will do that well. At under $30 it's not too pricey either. The Booda Dome Clean Step Litter Box is a solid product that works well.

Good job Cat. Well written. Keep up the good work. If I was considering an indoor cat, which I'm not, I might give it a try. Litter box problems are what changed our indoor cat to an outdoor cat. He's big and yellow and afraid of his own shadow. He's learned to live outdoors. Thanks for the article.
