We invest in I-Bonds U.S. Saving Bonds on a monthly basis; are we the only ones?  No one I ask about I-Bonds has ever heard of them.  I decided against traditional EE Savings Bonds because the I-Bonds are bought for face value and earn interest for up to 30 years, and the rate of return thus far has been admirable.  We have been purchasing I-Bonds for the last three years directly from the Treasury Department.

Does anyone else invest in I-Bonds?  And if so what rate of return have you enjoyed?

I buy I-Bonds sporadically.  I want to have a certain percentage of my investments to be 'fail safe', and savings bonds are about as safe as you can get, although the interest has been quite low for me (3% at best). I'm also puzzled about why so few people know about them.

I went for the safe route as well; there is nothing wrong with a conservative investment.  There is nothing like a diversified portfolio to ensure the future!

I've never heard of them before.  I wish I had enough extra money to invest in them.  I have a very aggressive 403(b) portfolio and it took a major hit in the past 2 years, though it is finally almost back to where it was before the economy tanked.  I've always said that as I got closer to retirement, I'd shift my investments from aggressive toward safer alternatives.  Still have 23 years to retirement, though!
