Bolt Review Summary

"Bolt is an animated story that seems to bring us viewers the same warmth and playfulness of a young dog." John Travolta voices the title character in this animated movie from Pixar and Disney, a dog that's been living on the set of an action TV show, "only being brought out of his trailer to perform a scene for the show." He thinks everything that happens is real, though, and escapes the studio when he thinks his costar Penny (Miley Cyrus) is in danger. Parents admit such a desire to take their kids to see Bolt, that they chucked longheld traditions, and now urge others to not "pass on taking your kids for a fun day out." While it was perhaps "a little complicated for kids less than 5," the young ones still enjoyed the animal characters. The complicated parts of the storyline led to "moments in which the film played with reality and fiction, and that was cleverly done." If there's one message that shows up repeatedly in these reviews, it's that Bolt made made people smile, as they put it "right up there with Toy Story or Monsters, Inc."

I have hosted Thanksgiving for the last 10 years and each year, I work the day before (all day) and then head home, put on my chef and decorators hat and get to work. I typically stay up all night long and slave the entire day of Thanksgiving. But this year, I let loose! I chose my theme (herbs!), prepared... read full review »

Bolt is a disappointing movie with a weak story line and poor execution. A dog is led to believe that his "person's" life is always at stake and that he has superpowers. One day he escapes only to find that he's just a dog. He befriends some rodent looking thing who lives in a glass ball he can evidently...

A few weeks ago I took my two sons ages seven and eleven to see the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua. During the previews, the movie Bolt was featured and my children were in stitches over it. All they kept saying is how they wanted to see that movie when it came out. I enjoyed it as well and wanted to see it too. We finally got a chance to go see it this weekend and I have to say, it was quite entertaining!

The Plot

The main characters are an adorable white dog named Bolt (voice of John Travolta) and his owner who is a young sweet girl named Penny (voice of Miley Cyrus). It starts with a puppy later...

Bolt is a new animated film from Disney that follows the story of a dog who discovers that he has been on a television show for his whole life.  Having been adopted from a pet store, Bolt (the dog) has been living on the set of a TV show, only being brought out of his trailer to perform a scene for the show.  His owner Penny, is often in danger on the show, and Bolt is always there to save the day.  The problem for Bolt though, is that on the set, special effects give him super powers such as being able to fire lasers from his eyes, the ability to give off a "super-bark", and added strength...

Bolt is an awesome movie. I went to see it with my 22-year-old son and we enjoyed ourselves to no end. We were previewing it to see it the grandkis, age 2 & 4, would like it and I can't wait to take them.
Disney has another great hit on their hands. John Travolta plays the voice of Bolt an adopted dog who ends up on a movie set and thinks hi is a real hero. He is the man (dog) that is always saving Penny (voice of Miley cyrus), his girl, from the man with the green eyes and his goons.
Bolt thinks that he is a superhero and has "superpowers" and when he "escapes" the movie set that has been his...

I took my grandkids, ages 5 and 6, to this movie when it first previewed. They loved it! Especially the 3-D glasses! I must admit I enjoyed it too. Perfect family movie. We would definitely see it again!

Bolt is an animated story that seems to bring us viewers the same wamth and playfulness of a young dog. Throughout the film, I had a smile on my face. It wasn't the best movie I have seen, and it wasn't epic. It didn't make me laugh hysterically. But it did make me smile, and there is a lot to be said for that.  Along with making me smile, Bolt also had some adventure, some humor, and some warmth, three things that seem to be necessary in an animated film.

Bolt (voiced by John Travolta) is the canine star of an action adventure series, and his costar is a young girl named Penny (voiced by Miley...

I always love the 3-D experience, and this was a fun one. The story started out with Bolt as a comic book super hero, then changed into something much more predictable. Personally, I would have rather seen them do something original, rather than go for the heart-warming reunion tale. That said, there were moments in which the film played with reality and fiction, and that was cleverly done.

That said, I really fell for the Bolt character and John Travolta did an excellent job of bringing nuances to the voice. His "human" wasn't so compelling, however, although Miley Cyrus aquitted herself well,...

I knew I was going to love this movie!  I'm the kind of movie lover that many times waits for the movie to be released on DVD and then purchase it for my collection.  This is one that I should have seen in the theater when it was released.  I really cheated myself out of a great night at the movies.  I purchased Bolt the day it was released and couldn't wait to watch it.  The beginning of the movie showing parts of Bolt's real-life movie were action-packed and full of all the movie magic we all expect.  Bolt's genuine belief in himself is very heartwarming.  He's just too cute.  Watching...

I went to see this with my kids and I usually hate cartoons but I can't wait for this one to come out on DVD.  This one is right up there with Toy Story or Monsters Inc.  I will definitely buy this one for the kids!  It was full of action and laughs.  There was no bad language or vulgar comments.  It was full of good morals (like loyalty and friendship) and no pushy agendas from the film industry.  It was a good wholesome movie that the entire family can enjoy.  Some of the action was a little violent for children under 5 but the violence turned into some funny humor to ease the moment. ...

Bolt on DVD is exciting and fun and all the things you hope for in great movie. The story is completely original and great to see unfold. Usually the Disney Studio 3D movies don't have the punch that the Pixar films do...this one is, I hope, the beginning of greater things for the Disney brand. Great Animation, fun characters, original story.

The voice actors are first class with the superb John Travolta leading the way. Miley Cirus does a great job with her first voice-acting job, my only comment is that at times she sounds too old for the character she plays. Rhino the Hamster is in danger...

Bolt is a great movie. My husband and I took my four year old son to the theater to watch it, we all loved it. Bolt has a great story and is very funny. My husband even liked this movie and he never likes cartoon movies. I went and bought this movie the day it came out to purchase. Right now it is over at grandpas house, because he likes it too. Bolt is a great family movie that all the family will love. The only thing about this movie is that there are a couple jokes that small children might not get. They are not inappropriate.

Thank goodness, a movie for kids that my kids can watch. No potty jokes for me 1,3,4 and 6 year olds to repeat. A little helicopter shooting action at the beginning that might scare certain kids. Was very surprised how much we all liked Bolt. The jist of the moviie was a little over there heads but there was plenty to keep them excited and wanting to watch it again. And it is NOT annoying, very nice for one we'll see several times!

Bolt is exactly the kind of movie that I am looking for when taking my children to the movies. The movie kept a good pace, had a good amount of action, and was funny. It had a great story line without adding in unnecessary adult situations, humor, or swearing. I have recommended this movie to everyone.
