Bolt Review

Bolt is a new animated film from Disney that follows the story of a dog who discovers that he has been on a television show for his whole life.  Having been adopted from a pet store, Bolt (the dog) has been living on the set of a TV show, only being brought out of his trailer to perform a scene for the show.  His owner Penny, is often in danger on the show, and Bolt is always there to save the day.  The problem for Bolt though, is that on the set, special effects give him super powers such as being able to fire lasers from his eyes, the ability to give off a "super-bark", and added strength and speed.  He thinks it's all real though, and has been under the illusion that Penny is actually in danger all the time.

When his person (Penny) is kidnapped on an episode of the show, Bolt thinks it is real, and breaks out of his trailer that night to try and save her.  All he knows though, is that he has to get from New York City to Hollywood, California, where he is sure that Penny is being kept hostage by a villain in the show.  To get there, he kidnaps a cat named Mittens that he feels can show him the way, and is joined by a hamster named Rhino that has idolized him from the show.  Together the threesome head off on an amazing journey across the country that will combine personal discovery for the characters with a lot of humor and fun.

The story itself is a great one in the realm of animated films, and does its best to provide the audience with a lot of humor and depth of character.  There are many laugh-out-loud moments in Bolt, often including the hamster doing something hilarious, or Bolt getting into a situation where he experiences something in the real world for the first time.  The story is a fun one that will appeal to a wide range of audiences, and one that can be cute as well as action-packed at times; like when they are filming sequences for the television show.  It was well worth seeing at full price, and we enjoyed nearly everything about the film.  Great animation from Disney coupled with a good script made this one very entertaining, and one that is easy to give a high recommendation.
