To the Point

A couple of years ago my mom fractured her arm. I was in Florida for 6 weeks! When physical therapy was ending I suggested that we get her a dumbbell to strengthen her hand(s). We chose Bollinger. She wanted to get the 3-pound dumbbell. If you are coming off a shoulder injury please talk with your doctor. I have had shoulder injuries. I suggest starting with one pound. You can use a 16-ounce can. You don't have to buy a 1-pound dumbbell and work up to 3-pounds. I still only use 3 to 5 pounds for my shoulder work.

A Closer View

These are made of vinyl which I much prefer over metal for several reasons:

1. They don't slip like metal does. While rubber material is best if you really perspire I doubt 3-pounds will make you sweat. However if you do these can be slippery.

2. They can be used without gloves.

3. Some metal dumbells have round ends and roll around. The Bollinger 3-pound dumbbell has squared off edges so they stay put.

4. If the vinyl dumbell falls on her ceramic floors it won't crack them!

You'll currently pay about $10.00 for a pair which is reasonable. I found them on eBay for that price. Some super sales will sell dumbbells at $1.00 a pound but that's rare.

These are 5 ½ inches long and 3 inches wide at each end.

In any case I taught my mom a few easy exercises and she still does them. I taught her to strengthen her wrists just buy curling her wrist while holding the dumbell. I taught her how to do bicep curls while sitting on the couch. She brings the weight up and even if her form isn't perfect the weight is light enough that I'm not afraid it will hurt her.

I like it!

Thanks. Perhaps I will look into these. I gave my 5# dumbells to my niece when she was in therapy for her shoulder after a car accident. My trainer says I need 8# weights any way. Nice review.

I would try these but I think I'll get beat up at the gym. Great review though, hope your shoulder injuries are gone now.

I don't have a shoulder injury but I do need to build some muscle in my arms. This sounds like just what I need!
