If you like it strong

By

from USA

Comments about Bodum Shin Bistro 12-oz. French Press Coffee Maker:

French presses are not for the light casual coffee drinker. This makes some serious coffee that can be very strong. You can adjust the amount of grounds you use to make it a little bit lighter but the whole point of a french press is to have a cup of strong coffee. It's very easy to use, just boil your water and pour it in, put in your grounds and slowly press to brew. You can have a great cup of coffee in minutes. I like using ours when I'm just having a really slow morning and need that pick me up.

Brew Performance
Brews very fast and makes a great cup of coffee. This is great if you like your coffee strong and perfect for camping or other places you have no electricity.

Ease of Cleaning
Extremely easy to clean. I hand wash mine and it takes a few minutes.

Ease of Use
If you can boil water and press down you can use a french press!

Design
It has a nice sleek design, looks nice on the counter but small enough to store.

Durability
Has held up the past year we've had it. Still brews the same and the parts are in perfect condition.

in a press

By

from united states

Comments about Bodum Shin Bistro 12-oz. French Press Coffee Maker:

My husband and I purchased this after the glass of our old french press shattered. What drew us to this product was one major feature: replaceable glass. With our old french press model, that was not an option. Now that it has some miles on it there are a few minor issues here and there but nothing major or warrant even consider replacing it.

Brew Performance
I know that Keurig's are the rage right now but nothing beats the taste of a nice cup or two of coffee from the french press. Call me old fashioned, but that is just my personal opinion.

Ease of Cleaning
After a couple of years, this product tends to show it's age (the glass has slowly stained, etc.) but if that is my biggest complaint.... I am a happy camper.

Design
Sometimes the glass gets a little hot and the handle seems slightly loose. Overall, no major issues.

Durability
M husband and I use this french press multiple times a week. We have owned ours for over two years now. We bought it in a pinch after our old one broke, This one has lasted us longer.

Love it!

By

from Edina, MN

Comments about Bodum Shin Bistro 12-oz. French Press Coffee Maker:

I love my French Press Coffee Maker. It is so simple and convenient to use. It saves time and is an easy cleanup appliance that is great to have in your home. In my house there are not a lot of coffee drinkers so this is great for preparing just one of a few servings. It really strains the coffee perfectly and keeps the coffee fresh throughout the day. You can just heat up a new cup when you want one.

Brew Performance
Its great. I just heat up water to boiling on the stove and then pour it in. It gets the best flavor out of the coffee when you boil the water, unlike normal coffee pots that do not boil the water.

Ease of Cleaning
The French Press is super easy to clean and I think this is one of reason it is a favorite for many people.

Ease of Use
Super simple to use and pretty much anyone can do it.

Design
The design is simple and functional, it doesn't need anything else.

Durability
Mine has lasted a long time. It really will last as long as you are careful with it since it is glass. Just be careful not to hit it in the sink when you wash it as it may chip or crack.

Careful With The Glass

By

from USA

Comments about Bodum Shin Bistro 12-oz. French Press Coffee Maker:

A french press coffee maker makes coffee that is world's above the coffee you get from a drip coffee maker. The flavor is stronger since the coffee is steeped like tea. There is also the added benefit that you do not have to have coffee filters on hand. You can get those unbleached and compost them, but it's still a wasteful practice. Now, you can't set the timer on a french press and have a full pitcher of coffee waiting for you when you wake up, haha. You have to get involved with the making of your coffee, which is nice. If you must have coffee first thing, get a standard coffee maker for the workweek and use your french press on the weekends to slow down and enjoy your coffee. One downside to this press, as with most Bodum products, is that the glass is thin and fragile and since it is not protected, it is easy to break, especially if you have granite counters or porcelain sinks.

This is a great item!

By

from Grosse Pointe, MI

Comments about Bodum Shin Bistro 12-oz. French Press Coffee Maker:

I bought this item, because the thought of it sounded so cool. It lasted for a while and then my little daughter thought it was cool too. It broke, but I bought it again! The thing is so easy to use. I love to use it when we lose power. I have to admit that that that is not the only time that I use it! It makes great coffee. it is really use to use and it does not need to be plugged in. The cost is not a lot unless you have kids who keep on breaking it. All of the parts are easy to clean. You can take this thing on vacation and even camping and have a great cup of coffee. I recommend that all coffee drinkers own of these things and this one is great. I would buy it again, but I hope that I don't have too!

Good press

By

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Bodum Shin Bistro 12-oz. French Press Coffee Maker:

There's basically 3 pieces to this french press: the press, which is connected to the filter, and lid, the handle, which is removable by either sliding it off, depending on how tight it is, or using a small philips screwdriver, and the glass part.  Being that it is only 3 pieces, it is very easy to clean.  The only problem when cleaning, however, is sometimes the coffee grind and get caught in between the filter and the press, so you may have to shake it or pick it out yourself.  Other than that, there are no problems with this french press at all.  The size is just right for my thermos, so that it is completely filled up everytime i make myself some coffee.  The glass gets very warm, when steeping the coffee, but never too hot to handle, so you regret grabbing the glass barehanded, instead of using the handle.  A nice touch to the product is the plastic filter that is part of the lid.  It can catch the few larger coffee grounds that might have slipped through, though this has happened only once for me, and I have been using it at least once a day, everyday, for 4 months so far.

Quick and easy cup of coffee

By

from Austin, TX

Comments about Bodum Shin Bistro 12-oz. French Press Coffee Maker:

This plastic-based french press does a great job of making one cup of coffee. When I first bought it (for the price and size) I thought the plastic would be detrimental, but it does not affect the taste of the cup of coffee. It is a nice single cup brewer for a single person, but if you have a family or frequent guests I recommend a french press of a larger size, as you can always use a large press to make one cup.

It has a second filter at the pour spout and seems to produce a rich flavored cup every time. Bodum is a reliable name, but has become more affordable by using more plastic parts in their recent products. The price decrease has not reflected in quality of construction. Though plastic, the press is reliable and highly functional. I actually prefer it to their one cup stainless steel model.

Writing this just makes me want to use it now.

Get all the essential oils

By

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Bodum Shin Bistro 12-oz. French Press Coffee Maker:

The bodum french press is about the best around.  It allows me to receive piping hot coffeee with all the essential oils.  I use it every day and it has held up well.  The only bad thing is that it is made of glass so it can sometimes break.  By not using a paper filter, you are sure to get all of the essential oils that are usually trapped inside the paper filter.  Another thing to consider is that when making coffee with a french press you should always grind your beans coarse--this ensures that you will get the best aroma and flavors and that it will not get too bitter.  If you grind your beans too coarse, you also risk the problem of having it build up too much preassure on the plunger so that it won't plunge easily.

I have used other french presses before and while I have listed as a con that this one is made of glass, the other was made of a plastic polymer and unfortunately it didn't keep the coffee as hot, so I guess this is the best method--even if I go through a couple a year--but it may just be careless me!!!!!

Bodum Bistro 8-Cup (4 US) Coffee Press makes great coffee!

By

from Head Waters, VA

Comments about Bodum Shin Bistro 12-oz. French Press Coffee Maker:

I bought this for my coffee-lovin' husband about a year ago for his birthday. He used it almost everyday and said it made some of the best coffee that he has had. It is also very easy to use, very fast to make...great for on the go before work! It made the perfect amount for the two of us, and was no problem to make more if we wanted. It was well worth the cost of it. The only bummer was it broke, thanks to one of the kids. I think some sort of barrier would be nice around the glass. A friend of our's had one too and it broke as well. I do think glass is the best to use with a coffee press, though! You just have to be careful with it! We hope to purchase another one when we can, and get back to our wonderful tasting coffee!!

bodum bistro is great

By

from New York, NY

Comments about Bodum Shin Bistro 12-oz. French Press Coffee Maker:

I love coffee and have a habit of collecting various exotic coffee based accessories, so i have various small coffee mixers, mugs and many other things from around the world. My coffee machine was an all american 10 cup holder which broke when some one accidently knocked it down during a party, the chafe broke along with some internal machinery, i had to send it for repairs and in the meanwhile needed something as temporary fix.i had thought of buying this coffee press as its cheap, durable and is known to make a mean cup of coffee. So i ordered this off amazon and was pleased to see it being as aesthetically beautiful the way it is. Since i have made coffee in a press before, at my aunts house, i was well aquatinted with the particular intricacies involved, which were actually not that much. French press are easy to use, i love the coffee this one makes, and the extra flavor you get, maybe its got to do with the pressure applied, i am not sure. Great device to make a quick coffee, brings a nice aesthetic touch to the kitchen as well.
