Many years ago I was wandering through Target on a retail therapy spree when I stumbled upon the Bodum Mini Ibis Electric Kettle. I couldn't resist making an impulse purchase, in part because the price was right (at under $20) but also because I had recently gone into a "hot tea drinking phase" and the idea of being able to boil water for tea quickly was appealing to me.
Using the Bodum Mini Ibis Electric Kettle
This is a startlingly simple unit. There's an exposed heating coil in the base of the unit, which is what heats up the water. To use the kettle you simply fill it with water, plug it in, and push down on the side lever to start the heating process. Once the water boils, the lever flips and the kettle automatically shuts off power. Et voila - Up to 27 ounces of perfectly heated water awaits! Oh the possibilities! Hot chocolate, hot tea, soup, whatever your imagination can dream up.
And the whole time it's doing its magic, the kettle remains relatively cool to the touch.
Since all you're doing is heating water, there's not much cleanup involved. Occasionally I give my Mini Ibis a good rinsing off, but I haven't noticed any other issues such as water scale buildup. The kettle is small enough to store easily in the kitchen with the cord wrapped around it.
Cat's Bottom Line
I really like my Bodum Mini Ibis electric kettle. It heats up water faster than our teakettle, and it can go anywhere, unlike a traditional kettle. I highly recommend this kettle for for cubicle-dwellers or anyone looking to boil water easily, just about anywhere.
