Boca Java Coffee — 

I admit I am not a big fan of coffee clubs that send out orders of coffee on a regular basis, because eventually you will have tried everything you want to try, but Boca Java's blatant lack of anything resembling customer attention really got under my skin.

The coffee was ok, nothing special. They don't offer a french press grind, and really the only reason I signed up was because I was getting points for something else. Plus the ease of cancelling at any time was prominently touted at sign up. This is only partially true. I make it a point not to sign up for services online that I cannot manage and cancel online as well, and when I first joined, there was the option to cancel that way. After a couple of shipments, I decided I'd had enough Boca Java, and used the cancel button in my account. To keep me from cancelling, I was offered free shipping on my next order, so I thought, what the heck, and decided to stay. Later, after a few more shipments, when I had definitely sampled everything I was interested in trying, I discovered the cancel button was nowhere to be found. After an increasingly frustrating search around the non-user-friendly site, I was directed to a customer service form, which only resulted in canned auto-replies based on the subject of my query. Although there was a person's name assigned to the "response", I got the exact same email from the exact same "person" four times in the next few minutes, with no variation or answer to the questions I was asking.

This is of course a lame attempt to force you to make a phone call where you will be forced to listen to someone convince you not to cancel. Which is what happened. When I declined to have my account put on hold for up to eight weeks, the cancellation was processed, and the man I was talking to said he would send me an email confirmation of the cancellation, which he did. So, they don't allow you to cancel online or via email, in a way that's convenient for you, but they have the capability to email you when it's convenient for them.

Bad customer service coupled with average coffee make this club one to avoid.
