My family and I live in an older, early 1970s home that until recently, had its original roof. This year, the melting snow and spring rains brought a nasty surprise - leaks, and a lot of them. I began calling contractors for estimates only to have them not show-up or when they did, our questions were met with disdain and we were made to feel like we were wasting their time. Finally, we were pointed in the direction of Bobson Construction and I have been doing a happy dance every since!
The gentleman who came out to give the estimate called me on the day of the appointment to confirm he would be here and double-check directions. True to his word, he showed up 10 minutes early. He was clean and polite and when he presented us with his business card, it revealed he was a supervisor who had been with the company for 45 years. We were already lightyears ahead of all the others.
After looking over our situation and finding out exactly what we wanted (complete tear-off), out came the samples of various types of shingles. Based on our decision, he gave us a written estimate. It was time for the nitty gritty - cost and we informed him that we would have to apply for a loan. It was then we learned about the 'Dream Loan'. Bobson does their own financing, based on what you can afford to pay monthly. I have never had easier financing! We told him what we could put down as a deposit and I threw out a (admittedly low) ballpark number as a monthly payment. Mr. Supervisor didn't bat an eye. Instead he told us that, pending approval from their credit department, he didn't see any reason why they couldn't start work the next week. I about fell over! This just seemed too easy, kinda like waiting for the other shoe to drop. We signed the credit application papers and 3 days later received a phone call from the company that we had been approved. Work would proceed on schedule.
Unfortunatly, Mother Nature had other ideas. On the day work was supposed to start, 3 days of torential rains began and roofers are adverse to acting as lightning rods. When the weather cleared, there was a crew knocking on the door at 7:30am and once they started they didn't stop for the next 10 hours. By the time they left that evening, our new roof was about 3/4 done, complete with new boards where needed, tar paper, ice dam sheets and the new shingles (pretty darn good for a 2-story colonial with extra little bump-outs all around). They same guys were back bright and early the next day to finish the job. Clean-up was amazing - no pieces of shingle, no tar paper left laying around, no mess anywhere! The driveway and back patio were hosed off, getting rid of all the little pebbles that are part of the shingles and even a small spot of oil on the driveway from their truck was scrubbed down. Our job was completed in a timely manner, to our specifications and best of all - no leaks!
An Observance
I wanted to add a personal note that has nothing to do with the quality of work, but speaks highly of the crew. When they first arrived and began unloading equipment and supplies, my pre-teen son was really interested. The crew saw him watching and went out of their way to talk to him, explain what various tools were and answer a few of his questions. When he came home from school that afternoon they even stopped to ask if he had had "an awesome day and if he listened to his teacher". For a kid facinated with all sorts of 'cool guy-stuff' and any type of construction, those few minutes of interaction were priceless and VERY much appreciated by this mom.
The Bottom Line
I cannot speak highly enough about Bobson Construction and all of their employees I have had contact with. If I could give a rating higher than 5 stars, I would not hesitate to do so.
