Blue and Gold Macaw Review

We have had many animals in the past and still do. Our latest is a baby blue and gold macaw. She is fun to be with and lets everyone in the family handle her unlike some of the other birds we have. my children will even hold her and they are 14 and 7. Our africian grey will only stick to my husband she wont let anyone else get her unless she flew to floor and needs to get up then she'll let you touch her.

She is playful, we play games on the floor, she rolls over and lays on her back and will sometime hang upside down on her back when holding her. My daughter hopes to show her other things she saw a show with a macaw riding a bike and hopes now she will do the same. She has tried playing ball on the floor with her.

They do make a mess with food and wood, we have pieces of the wood toys all over the place. The dogs do help with the food and its great that they eat people food to so when we eat we give her some to and the dogs love it when she drops it.

Shes starting to stay things like hello and stuff. Once in awhile it sounds like she repeated something we said but we never here it again. Shes even nice to the dogs, doesn't mess with them or anything.

She is a little timid of new people she will give someone new some trouble if they try to pet her.

They are a loud bird but we are lucky she only gets loud once in awhile and its for only a few minutes so having in an apartment would not be a good idea.

Only other thing is they need a big cage so you need to be sure you have the room for that. If we had more room we would have 2 more bird birds now, I want a cockatoo and hubby wants a greenwing macaw.

We also build a big play stand which we made. bought the tree stand thing at store when they had a really good sale. hubby bought wood to screw bottom to and put wheels on it to move it around, board on bottom is about 4 feet across to try and get whatever falls to ground for easy cleaning and then we put hooks in ceiling to hand toys from and things to climb and put plastic thing on ceiling so she couldnt eat the ceiling and screwed 2 bowls in the tree thingy for food and water, she spends alot of time there playing and covering the floor in wood pieces, but its on the hardwood floor so easy to sweep up.

She loved during summer to sit in the window sill and look outside. we even one summer evening brought her out siden( she had her wings cut ) with us for dinner, she had her own plate with veggies and pasta on it, she totally enjoyed that. 

If you have a room and the time I would say go for it and get a blue and gold macaw.
