Blue Moon Belgian Style White/Wheat ale Review Summary

One of the most popular craft beers around is Blue Moon Belgian Style White/Wheat Ale and reviewers enjoy this Belgian White Ale for many reasons. They enjoy the aroma, the distinct flavor, and the easy drinkability of Blue Moon Belgian White Ale and they like that it offers seasonable variations. “If You Like a Little Citrus Flavor in Your Beer, This is the One” is how one reviewer summarizes his views and another joins in the songs of praise with the comment “Pleasantly Surprised, Very Refreshing”. A few have pointed out that Blue Moon Belgian White Ale is better on draft than in bottles and that it has a shorter shelf life than other beers. But Blue Moon Belgian White Ale still outranks most Beer Products, with a taste that is smooth, refreshing, and tailor- made for summer.

Blue Moon is an interpretation of a witbier.  Hence it is smooth, refreshing, and has a citrus-y flavor.  However, Blue Moon is unnecessarily sweet and leaves a cloying, medicinal aftertaste.

Blue Moon simply doesn't stand up to Hoegaarden (widely available) which is the yardstick of witbier nor even...

Over the years, I have grown to love several drinks--a strawberry daiquiri with friends on a hot day, a vodka cranberry at a fun bar, a great glass of bordeaux at a nice restaurant--but for a long time, I just could not bring myself to like beer. I didn't like the taste and I really didn't like the calories that came along with it. I figured, why try to force myself to like something that could make me gain a ton of weight? After years of refusing any and all types of beer, I finally let one of my friends persuade me into trying Blue Moon. Expecting the worst, I was definitely pleasantly surprised....

The only beer I drink during the summer is Blue Moon. It is so refreshing, it doesn't even taste like beer. It has an orange flavor, tasteful and full. Not your heavy wheat beer. It has a light taste, but all of the flavor. Whether you're inside a bar, at the beach, at the picnic or backyard cookout; Blue Moon goes well with everything; a steak, a burger, a hot dog or even a salad.
Recommended for all ocassions and events.

Blue Moon is a great ale. Enjoy it with an orange wedge. It is brewed by the Molson Coors Brewing Company, and started in 1995. It was originally called the 'Bellyslide Belgian White.' The orange wedge will accentuate the flavor of the beer. Coors does not actively advertise that they own Blue Moon since they think it'll dimish the beers credibility. Blue Moon is a light ale, so if you're looking for something a bit more substantial... this isn't it. Keep in mind, this is best with an orange wedge. Need I say more.

I enjoy blue moon very much.  However, there are times when I purchase blue moon (I buy the 12 packs) there is sediment in the bottles.  It's in chunks or stuck to the inside of the bottle.  It has happened to me twice in the last two months.  I may get 3 or 4 good beers out of a 12 pack.  The rest I have to throw away!  If you try and drink one with the sediment inside, it makes for a very unpleasent beer.  The last 12 pack I purchased for the Thanksgiving Holiday's, and it was bad.  It was dated Jan0410 D10070358 R54 27923.  I am just being truthful.  I would like blue moon to continue...

I actually tried this beer last night for the first time.  I ordered another brand that wasn't available and the bartender recommended Blue Moon. I was pleasantly surprised!  They served it with an orange slice, which I wasn't so sure about at first, but again...pleasantly surprised!  I don't know if this would be my first choice, especially if my "other" brand is available, but I will most definitely when visiting this same establishment.  It went great with my meal which included a small pizza as an appetizer and a turkey burger and fries for my entree.  I enjoyed so much I drank three!! ... read full review »

This "ain't" no Hoegaarden. Actually, it is a comfortable, somewhat satisfying knock-off of Hoegaarden. Sure it is a Belgian style Witbier and sure it has coriander and citrus...however.... much sweeter than Hoegaarden but lacking aroma. Finish is not as complex or strong. This beer is made for the masses, in Coors style, to introduce one to this Belgian style beer. Bad? No. Best? No. Just a comfortable, sweeter, copy-cat at a lesser price. Oh, please forget the recommended orange slice. Doesn't help and it more than hinders the experience.

Serious beer drinkers should stick with Hoegaarden.

Ther is nothing I like better than a Burger with a Cold Beer.     During a recent visit to my favorite Beer and Burger tavern the Bartender had Blue Moon Belgian Style listed as the Beer Special of the day.     This was my first try of Blue moon, and while I am not one to put Lime or Citrus in my beer, this Beer definitely had a slight citrus taste that seemed to enhance the flavor of my Burger.   Blue Moon would not be my first choice for a cold beer after mowing the lawn in the summer, but to go with a Grilled Burger, yeah this makes the meal special.

The thing i love most about Blue Moon is that they mix it up.  In addition to standard Blue Moon, they come out with a seasonal version as well, so over the course of the year there are 4 more varieties.  It's great because in the fall, there's a touch of pumpkin and cider flavoring, in the summer, a touch of honey, and so on.  It's nice because it matches the seasons and there's always the original to go back to if you need it.  Blue Moon is light, refreshing and different from other beers by the taste and flavor that is composed to brew it.  I highly recommend this beer!

I have been a fan of this brew for over a year.  It seems to go so well with grilled meats, salads, etc.  I have tried some of the seasonal ales and they do not measure up to the original.  My kids have come to point out the Blue Moon signs in places knowing it's "mom's favorite".  My father and uncle are now fans after trying it at our family get-togethers here.  While a appreciate a darker beer in the winter, Blue Moon is a favorite in summer and for casual social drinking.

If you haven't tried Blue Moon...get out there!  Of course, you have to have the orange slice in it.  Brings out that summer flavor, unlike a lemon or lime in a Heffi or Corona.  Did you know its made by Coors?  true story!  First tasted it about 10 yrs ago, while on a tour of the Golden, CO brewing company, for Coors!  Fell in love with it then and now it is hotter than ever in local bars and taverns and you can find it on tap...which is the only way to go!

My boyfriend and I love Blue Moon (especially with orange slice) !  Blue Moon doesn't taste very wheaty and is refreshing.  Goes well with many dinner choices.  We look forward to the Spring Ale.

Many of our local restaurants have started carrying Blue Moon on tap and have added it to their happy priced beers.

Unfortunately we discovered that Coors (not so tasty) has become Blue Moon's distributor.

An exceptional Belgian style beer made in Canada. A bit on the fruity side, but that should be expected since it is a wheat ale made with a bit of orange peel. Personally, I forego the trendy orange slice garnish. That's for the posers. Drink it straight without adulteration. Keep in mind that this stuff will collect sediment as it sits, so buy it only when you want it. It's not meant to be refrigerated for extended periods.
