Having a dog with skin allergies, finding a food for them can be hard. I spent a lot of time researching online and talking with a feed store manager. Blue Buffalo Basic works great for him. He can tolerate the salmon and the turkey. The limited ingredients have really helped limit his allergy reactions. The biggest downfall is the cost. It is really expensive, but worth it. The itching makes us both miserable. The product can be hard to find sometimes. I have had luck with a local feed store who carries it. I was able to arrange a bag delivered for my dog to the store every 3 weeks. She always keeps salmon and turkey in stock for me. I think I have tried 10+food brands and this is the first one that has worked. Quality of Ingredients I love that it has limited ingredients. No wheat, corn, etc. really helps dogs that have allergies. By being on this food, his hair is starting to grow back and his itching and licking has decreased immensely. Flavor Selection I wish there were more flavors to try. My feed store has a policy where I can bring the food back and switch it for one I know works for him so it would be nice to try other flavors.

This is the ONLY dog food that my 40-pound Australian Cattle dog that suffers from Addison's disease can properly digest. It is grain free and the only meat that it contains is salmon. If your dog suffers from Addison's disease, a wheat allergy, or a meat allergy, you need to give this food a try! The food is a little bit more expensive than many other types and brands but in the end it is worth it because my dog is no longer sick and making yucky messes all over anymore. He usually goes through about one large bag of this dog food each month. I would recommend you shopping between pet stores to get the best deal on this food, don't waste your money at the vet's office. And don't worry, this brand also makes a coordinating dog treat so you can still spoil your furry baby. Quality of Ingredients It is made from only vegetables and salmon. There aren't preservatives or additives. It's natural and real. Flavor Selection This is the only flavor selection that fits the needs of my dog, but he LOVES it! The salmon smell is pretty strong but I take that as a good thing, knowing my dog is getting actual salmon and not a by-product.

My Maltese has many allergies and we have to keep changing his food. We have to find the most stripped down food we can. This is the current one, and it's done real well. He loves it. It's abit expensive but no fillers quality food. The company does not send out coupons also when I contacted them but in my limited small town I don't have alot of choice. I paid full price for the large bag and by the time my 2 small dogs are done with it we'll have to put get him on another fish based food that's as stripped down as possible.

My dog has food allergies to certain grains.  I have tried several foods, even prescription ones from the vet.  She gets very itchy skin when she eats food that she is allergic to.  I did a lot of research online and found the Blue Buffalo Basics.  The flavors they offer have very limited ingredients and none of them are things that my dog is allergic to.  I give her Blue Buffalo Basics and she does very well.  The skin problems she has due to her allergies have almost gone away and she loves the taste.  It is a little on the expensive side, but I can find it on sale a lot and it's totally worth it to know that my dog isn't suffering for itchy skin all the time.  She enjoys both flavors that are available.  The only thing that I wish they would make is a lower calorie version.  My dog also tends to gain weight and it would be nice to have this formula in a lite version.  Either way, I'm going to keep on giving her this food.

When I first adopted my puppy, she was on a raw chicken diet. We then switched her to Science Diet, and that made her poops solid, but it stank really bad, so we switched her to Eukanuba and her poops were good, but she didn't like the food. We then switched her to Blue Buffalo Chicken for Puppies and she loved the food, but she had really bad diarrhea. Finally, we found Blue Buffalo Basics Salmon and her poops are a still a little loose, but are the best we've seen compared to all the other foods we've had her eat. Her coat is super shiny and she loves to eat this stuff. We have to make sure that we don't overfeed her since this food is so rich in nutrients, or else she will have diarrhea again. Overall, this is a great dog food for a dog with a sensitive stomach and I would definitely recommend it. The only thing that I don't like about this food is the price tag. It gets a little expensive, but if you lower the amount of cups (since it's so high in nutrients), it should even out.

My dog who is 10 years old developed allergies so someone suggested Blue Buffalo LID for her since it has very limited ingredients. She is doing so much better since she has been on this food and has had only one ear infection since she has been on it as opposed to one every 3 months when she was on regular food. Very expensive but well worth it. Cheaper then going to the vet every 3 months

i've struggled for 8 years with food allergies with my baby boy red..repeated ear infections, gas, loose stools, hair loss, body odors..then the blue buffalo rep was at petsmart.. he set me up with a coupon and a guarentee..after one week there was an improvement after a month he was like a new dog. we can actually ride in the car with him and not roll down a window.  his coat is great, and all his body functions are great..i recommend it to everyone its one time when limited ingrediants"less is more"

We tried this out in the 24lb. bag for our older dog that has developed allergies with old age. We were concerned with buying the higher protein content for an older dog. The food is easily digestable and seems to help with his skin condition. He has more energy and was even playing a lot more with our younger dog like he was a puppy again. My major complaint is this particular blend makes our dog gassy. Now that winter is here we will change to another of the blue buffalo flavors of dog food to see if these will help our dog's skin condition without the gas. My vet warned us from feeding potatoes and sweet potato based pet foods to another of our dogs as he was afraid it would act as a sugar pill to a genetically overweight dog. Overall this brand of pet food is great, seems to be made of quality ingredients, The one thing this company does do is have a large assortment of pet food varities to accomodate many different dog needs.
