Blockbuster Online Review Summary

DVD rental stores offer an inexpensive way to enjoy movies and one the premier names in DVD rental is Blockbuster Online. This DVD rental system is the online accompaniment to the Blockbuster physical location stores and members like the fact that they can return the DVD they receive in the mail to a Blockbuster store for another movie. Members in general feel that Blockbuster Online is “Very Quick, Easy, and Effective”, but there are others who feel the service has gone downhill, with one reviewer commenting that Blockbuster Online is “Undependable and Costly”. Blockbuster Online is still a popular Entertainment Web Site, but potential customers should beware of changes to plans and prices that have caused Blockbuster Online to lose some of its appeal.

Average 9 movies a week, but pay $26 a month

I met Netflix as a mystery shopper, which I signed up to get a movie a week for $4. They paid for it. After a month I am to quit. 1 movie a week? Takes 3 days to arrive in the mail, watch it & send it back & wait for another next week. I can't believe how bad Blockbusters online programs has gotten!

The message I sent them after reading their new policies and pricing — To the management of Blockbuster, I think it's terrible that you are charging $22 for me to keep my plan the same as it has been. I only switched to blockbuster from netflix because of the unlimited in store exchanges. Netflix's shipping is twice as fast as yours and I've had nothing but trouble getting this company to send my movies in a timely manner which if you have a record of my account you will see if you persist with this change I see no reason not to switch back to netflix or some other movie… read full review »

tell me i lost dvds when i returned them

on two ocassions i was told that i did not return my rentals when infact i had. both times i was asked to pay for the "restocking fee." i was very disapointed that they could not keep track of the rentals being returned to them..so much that this happened to me TWICE in less than 6 months.… read full review »

In October 2006 I took the plunge! I canceled our subscription to HBO and Starz from our cable company and signed up for Blockbuster's online rental program. I compared Netflix and Blockbuster and picked Blockbuster because in addition to the rentals in the mail, Blockbuster also gave you a weekly coupon for a free in-store rental. So, for the same price we were really getting 3 movies at a time instead of 2! The process is that you add as movies as you want to an online queue. I started with Blockbuster a few years ago because they had the same prices as Netflix plus you got two coupons for free in-store rentals which made it better than Netflix. A few years later I'm pretty happy with my service. Every now and then I notice slow downs in how long it takes to ship the next one but when I contact Customer Service it gets fixed quickly and sometimes I'll get a coupon for another free rental. When we first signed up for this service about a year ago, we thought it was the greatest thing! For $5.99 we could have unlimited movies shipped to our house (1 at a time). When we are done watching the movie, we just put it in the mail or take it to the store to exchange for a free in-store rental. I used to love Blockbuster until about 9 months or so ago. Blockbuster website was easy to use, simple, and straightforward. Then they redesigned the website and it became slow, glitchy, and horrible. I've experienced everything from my queue being locked even though it wasn't maxed out and not being able to add, remove or change the order of movies in my queue - this was AFTER it finally loaded. This is the best thing I have encountered in a while. I do not watch TV but I loooove movies. Blockbuster Online has a huge library that you will not find elsewhere or in the stores. I can find movies from 1920 there! Fortunately for me, I got in when it was much cheaper. They raised the prices because I guess they were getting ripped. I love the service and have up to 7 movies at my house at a time! We began using Blockbuster online about a year ago. I was very skeptical about the whole process, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The turn around time for movies is extremely quick! We've never had to wait more than two days for a movie. And, as an added bonus, we can turn in the movies from the online store for free rentals from our local Blockbuster! I like getting the movies, but boy the Customer Service is HORRIBLE. They don't even bother to return their emails, yet they advertise this as service. I used to be able to call them, but I guess since they won't answer their emails, they stopped letting people call. I wonder why???? — There's a lot of problems, long waits for movies, expensive and then they changed my contract without notice. I am a previous Blockbuster employee who had many perks, so getting a bad review from me says something. I like quality in my service so I tested Netflix, GamesNFlix, and Intelliflix in comparison to Blockbuster. In my opinion, Blockbuster Online is on a equivalent level as GamesNFlix but Netflix is far superior. The part which frustrated me about Blockbuster Online was when they claimed to have certain movies "available" but would not leave my queue for the entire month.
