I've never been so pleased with an appliance in my life. I searched and searched for a blender for our wedding registry and was disappointed at the limited options found at retail stores like Macy's, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, and Crate & Barrel. Nothing was reasonably priced and still reliable. There were some "good looking" options, but I don't care about looks if the power isn't there.
I'm a lover of smoothies and margaritas. I use my blender at least 3-4 time per week. I wanted something I could throw whole ice cubes in and it would crush them instantly. Well, I found the machine I was looking for! This baby packs some power!
Originally, my husband found the blender online after hearing my complaints and commenting that Jamba Juice and other smoothie places never seem to have a problem with clogging... having to stir the contents with a spoon, opening the top to have the contents splash all over you... if you're a blender-lover like me, you know what I'm talking about! So, he scoured the Internet, looking for something reasonable and that gets good reviews.
Let me preface this in saying we did buy the most expensive brand the other stores offer and I would advise to be careful, look at the watt and power those brands have. They charge too much for blenders that have little power! This one doesn't even compare to a store brand. It's THAT good. Also, the one we bought in the store (that we never used and promptly returned) was made with two different colors of brushed metal. Ugly!
We knew $400 was a lot to fork out for a blender... but like I said, I love smoothies. I wanted something that I could keep forever and that would not give up. I also searched for a blender that had all metal parts. That's really important because some of them are plastic where the base screws into the actual machine. Check everything out. When we bought the Blendtec, they didn't even disclose the price online. You had to email them for a cost... which I thought was weird, but kind of exclusive! :)
You will not be disappointed with this purchase. I use this for making all kinds of things. Soups, smoothies... I even tried bread dough (although my KitchenAid does better on this one). There are no attachments, it's super easy to clean:
Cleaning method: I give it a really quick scrub down (like you're rinsing before throwing it in the dishwasher quick) and drop about 3 cups of water and a dot of dish soap and "pulse" it a few times. I like this method because it cleans even the nitty gritty metal parts in the base you cannot easily get to when washing by hand or by dishwasher. My husband thinks that's his favorite part!
They offer many colors of the blender, but I like my appliances to be either brushed aluminum or black. So, that's the one I got. They also have: gray, brown, and what looks to be a white/pearl color from their website.
More specs on the product: There's a 3 inch metal blade (that seriously kills anything you put in there), 2 quart jar, Blue LCD display that scrolls across-- it's very sleek!, Six choices of blend cycles, it counts down for you the seconds digitally, Smart touch technology touch pad controls, 13 AMP, 1500 watts-- enough to power a small lawnmower!, 12 pounds, rubber top that is flexible so you can open a tiny corner and the rest is still sealed, Super easy to clean, There's a small hole in the top for breathing, Three year warranty in United States and Canada.
I was trying to think if there was anything I disliked about this blender and I had a hard time finding anything... but... since I can be picky: I originally wanted a glass jar, but it's plastic (which also makes it more durable). Also, remember, it is still a blender and although I'd say this can blend anything, you still need to incorporate some liquids in with your solids otherwise, like all blenders, it will clog up a bit. But it will guaranteed crush those ice pieces with no problem!
If you'd like to see this blender in action, they have many Youtube videos on showing this blender eating away iPods and other electronics. Of course they do not endorse that (and it will quickly negate your warranty... so don't do it... it is an expensive machine), but it's fun to see that this blender has some serious power.
I will never buy another blender again. I've had this one for about a year and I will buy another one if anything ever happens to it. I also feel pretty special because no one I know owns a blender this incredible and everyone wants to come over for margaritas at our house since we have such a cool machine. It is the prize in my kitchen-- and I guess it should be considering it cost so much.
If you're like me and look for quality you're willing to pay for, this is your machine. One last warning: because it has so much power, it is a loud machine. Almost to the point you want to wear ear plugs. If you live in an apartment or condo, you may consider only powering this during regular waking hours. But considering how well it works, that shouldn't hold you back.
