Okay, so I admit, I am a sucker for modern design in general, and especially modern furniture, appliances, and gadgets for the home.  But....the thing I've come to appreciate is that beautifully designed items need to be functional as well.

Take my kitchen sink.  Blanco's Precision series of sinks is gorgeous.  They are big, deep, square, and bold.  Ours really is the perfect aesthetic for our modern home.   When we picked ours out we got the large single bowl and laughed and said it would be the perfect sized sink for bathing a baby (keep in mind we only have a dog so far!).  But until kids come along, we need to use our kitchen sink for the far more mundane daily task of washing dishes and rinsing things off.

And in this regard, well, our sink is square and flat bottomed.  There is the slightest angle down to the drain, but overall the slant is minimal.   As it turns out, flat sinks don't really drain very well!  It's a constant hassle to have to do 2-3 extra rinses everytime food or something gets in there, because it stays in the corners of the sink and doesn't drain well.

I suppose this should have been obvious ("well duh Kim - it is SQUARE!") but man, it was so cool I couldn't resist. :)

So, if you are into design and looks, I recommend this sink. Like all stainless sinks, there's an on-going battle to combat scratches and streaks, but it's deep, big and has huge capacity. It's super easy to clean oversized items.  On the other hand, if you will be annoyed by less than optimal drainage, this is probably not the right sink for you.

Having said all this, if I did it over again, I would probably buy a very similar sink again - it really is epitome of my design preference.  And my husband and I clearly didn't learn our lesson.  Check out my review on our bathroom sinks - they are the flat bottomed Purist series from Kohler.

I think our sink was original when the house was built. It will probably last longer than my Cavalier.

Not having a dish washer myself I can only imagine how frustrating it would be to wash dishes in one of these sinks. You're right though, they are very fashionable.

Have you ever seen the show called "Flippin Out" with Jeff Lewis. He flips house. He loves Modern!
This sink reminded me of that show. lol :)

Being a plumber in my younger years I learned flat and square sinks caused the most problems. The water would drain leaving most of the solids behind. When they were then rinsed down it almost always caused lines to get clogged up. They may look good but they are far from practical from a plumbing standpoint.....;) Ron
