Blades of Glory Review Summary

Blades of Glory is a light-hearted comedy, with plenty of slapstick and gags, spoofing the skating competition industry. Will Ferrell of Elf and Jon Heder of Napoleon Dynamite star as two singles competition ice skaters who are banned for life from competing after fighting on the ice. They find a glitch in the rules and skate together as an all men pair. Viewpoints moviegoers are split on their thoughts of Blades of Glory. While some reviewers felt it was the funniest movie they've seen, others refer to it as a "colossal waste of time and money." While some feel all the funnier parts of the film had been used already in the previews, others feel the previews are just the beginning. Reviewers also wanted us to know Blades of Glory is in no way meant for children with its language and adult situations.

Will Ferrell is hilarious
first in line on opening weekend, a movie guru

Blades of Glory stars Will Ferrell as Chaz Michael Michaels - a mushy, flirty pro ice skater who fueds with his top competitor John Heder as Jimmy MacElroy - a frilly, frail pro ice skater. The two wind up fighting on the podium and are barred from Men's Singles for life. Eventually, the two have found themselves in going nowhere careers and when a fan finds a loophole for them to re-enter the sport - as a men's pair team - they are both eager for the spotlight once again.

Blades of Glory is hilarious as the two rivals have to work together towards their goal. Ferrell is at the top of his game here....

This movie is so stupid that it is side splitting funny. The premise, the acting, the one liners.  The whole package.  It is a truly un-redeeming time waster at its finest.

Will Farrell could make almost anything seem funny.

Of complete garbage. I didn't laugh, not once, through the whole movie. It's not funny. Period. I'm a fan of comedy, and there are some classics out there. This isn't one of them. Will Ferrell has went from original to old hat, simply repeating the garbage someone called a script and handed to him along with a paycheck.

"Elf" was hilarious. "Anchorman" was awesome. "Talladega Nights" and "Blades of Glory"? No thanks. That's an hour and a half I'll never get back again.

I don't know what the bad reviews are all about.  I didn't think that this movie had a stunning plot line, or that it really dug to the depths of my soul to evoke some deep emotion, but it wasn't supposed to.  It was supposed to make me laugh.  And it did.  I mean, lines like "Do you wanna see my icy hot belly slide" were written for no reason other than to get a chuckle out of the audience.  The idea of having a creepy guy stalker of a male figure skater is amusing in the way it is presented.  If you went into this movie expecting it to be the next "Godfather" or "Fried Green Tomatoes",... read full review »

This had so much potential.  With the starring cast, I would have expected the goofball humor that I have seen those two perform so often with ridiculously funny outcomes.  The story was really no worse than most of those in this line of unrealistic humor, but something just didn't pan out for this movie.  The acting was what was expected, the story was to be expected, the direction was fine, but the magic just wasn't there. 

The second star was for the few lines that were laughable.  It really deserves more of a 1-1/2 rating from me in my opinion.

A must-see movie for Will Ferrell fans. Its a story about two guys who are iceskating champions but have been banned to take part in the singles iceskating competition. So they plan to partner together to be the first ever male-male combination in the doubles iceskating competition. Will Ferrell is really funny and i remember that the first time i saw this movie in theatre...it was infact hard to hear the dialogues because the audience was laughing that loud all through the movie. I saw it again once the dvd came out and enjoyed it thoroughly again.

This DVD was on sale this past weekend, so I bought it and brought it home for me and my 14 year old son to watch.  It was absolutely hilarious.  Usually I have a hard time finding movies we both like to watch, but i scored on this one, and I highly recommend it.  No nudity and languge was mild compared to other comedies. 

Will Ferrell couldn't be any funnier, the story line was easy to follow and not so stupid I felt I was wasting my time.  The only thing I could have lived without was the very ending, which was completely stupid.  But overall the movie was worth watching.

I don't buy very many DVDs. If I've seen a movie once, I've usually seen it enough. I do buy movies that are just plain funny and stupid. My very select library includes Happy Gilmore, Ace Ventura, and Down Periscope. It now includes Blades of Glory as well. This move tells a hilarious story, doesn't take itself too seriously, and has great one liners. The actors aren't afraid to make fun of themselves and characters they play take themselves seriously. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who just wants to stop thinking for an hour and a half.

This movie was all about the punchlines. The story was written around how to fit as many of them in as possible. Now, it wasn't so bad that I wanted to gouge my eyes out, I actually watched the entire thing, and just kind of felt.. eh. My 11 year old son, on the other hand.. who absolutely loves goofball movies.... decided less than half-way through that he wanted to finish his homework... and a book... and start reading another book... but he did so while still keeping me company as I finished the flick.. bless his heart.

I was truly disappointed by this film. I am a big fan of Will Ferrell and was looking forward to seeing this film, but it just was not funny. I think I laughed out loud only once or twice during the film. Normally I can't wipe the smile off my face when watching his movies. It was also way too long. It just seemed that everyone involved in the film wasn't really giving it their all and not really trying. I would never watch this film again. Here's hoping they don't make a sequel.

I knew this movie would be crazy funny with Will Ferrell as a star, but it certainly isn't his best film.  The story line is a little weird--2 guys  get in a fight on the Olympic podium and are sentenced to skate together as a pair.  There's lots of juvenile humor (my 11 yr. old LOVED this movie and even bought himself a copy), but it's not for younger kids.  I'd say the junior high segment of the population would probably enjoy this movie the most.

This movie is slap stick comdedy sort of in a way. I found it funny and entertaining and kept my attention. I loved the blonde character ( shoot i can't remember his name ) but he played Napoleon in Napoleon Dynamite. Loved him in that movie. Can you imagine if two males really did compete in the couples catagory of ice skating. I would love to see it happen.  I love to watch ice skating competition i would watch two maled skate together.

this movie is awesome, it is a movie i can see my self watching over and over. i could watch this movie by myself or with a ton of friends. this movie will stay on the top of the funny list for year. i feel the two leading roles were casted greatly. i think the story line i s a little weird but it was funny. i love the other roles in the moive also i knew from thw start the the brother and sister was going to hook up at the end of the movie.
